Topic awaiting preservation: Good satellite Internet provider - East Europe? (Page 1 of 1)

Well I am sick of slow download. Do you have any recommendations for a good Satellite Internet provider? I have found www.planetsky.com and I watched at their coverage maps and I am located in the area where is 1.2 m antenna size requested... I see the best is 0.9m but I still don?t know what that exactly means? Will I be able to have fast Internet with 1.2m antennas or it is going to be slower?

What do you say about two-way link? Does it pay?

One more thing, main reason why I wont fast connection is telephony, I have menu relatives in Europe, USA and Canada and I would like to talk to them every day... but telephone is so expensive.

for voiceOverIP, you won't be happy with a sattelite connection, either. These things have a pretty big latency as far as I know, and believe me, talking with someone who's always 3 seconds behind isn't fun.

Apart from that, I fear I can't help you.

The best way for you could be to fist tell us:

1. Where do you live in east europe?
2. No matter was sorte of post communist country you are living in if you can pay a lot of money everything will be ok. However satellite stuff is expensive, in Canada it's absolutly expensive...

where abouts in the eastern end of europe are you, cable and asdl are quite common place i know....

Actually, there are part's of east berlin you can't get adsl in - because they[*['ve used glass fiber instead of copper for the last mile... and don't offer a decent broadband via it (yet).

* - meaning Deutsche Telekom

OK now I use www.planetsky.com SkyHome it is only 33$/mo and it is true that latency is around 1s but it is better to wait 1 secound and then get file in another one then waiting 20secounds for status bar to move on dial-up.

Well I had to buy 1.2m antenna but I think it is good investmant.

Well I think that 33$/mo is bargin for that speed.

They use a lot of previously classified KGB satellite capacity for Internet provision.
Downside is, you have to hack the site to gain membership and if you
dont pay the bills on time, they come to your place and pull your nails.

Well, I am happy with Planetsky mas the only problem I have experienced is some p2p applications.

I solved initial problems with Technical Support I had to adjust socks 5 proxy and other things for some applications... that I should know already but their TS is so quick, you can always contact them even on ICQ you do not have to mail them and get auto-replay with FAQ. I have to give my 2 cents to their TS they are good.

The best of all is speed! Speed is great, latency is 400ms bigger then usual but it is fine with most of applications. Here in my part of world traffic over the satellite is much cheaper then any other ground solution. I did not try their VoIP service jet but I will do it soon and inform you.
