The poster has demanded we remove all his contributions, less he takes legal action.
We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.

Hmm... It didn't work for me... Is IE6 the first MS browser to not support Java? How can I fix this? It's just a grey box.
I don't think I'm too interested in it at the moment... maybe some other time, but it seems like a lot of stuff I'll have to learn first.

One advantage with Flash is that it is pretty simple to find what you need and instal the latest upgrade - an awful lot of users would give up when looking through that web site looking for this page:
http://www.jausoft.com/products/gl4java/gl4java_main.html
I like the online installer feature but how many people are going to be put off by the message "Be sure to have the MS-JavaVirtualMachine build 3186 or later installed !"
For this kind of thing to become more mainstream they are going to have to sort out simpler ways giving people access to the plug in - I'm sure this will come in time.
Anyway enough of the rant (frame abuse gets to me): That is impressive Ini - you may be singlehandedly restoring my faith in Java (in its place, of course).
Keep up the good work - I'm looking forward to seeing further tutorials.

Ini: I've wandered off from the computer I installed it on but I'll sort a screenshot out tomorrow.
I'm also sure that with a simpler site and some platform detection it should be possible to serve up a much more focused selection of plugins.

Ini: Thanks for the reminder (somedays I'd forget where I put my head if it wasn't reflected in the monitor) and as penance I've done 3 to try to catch the different 'states':

It doesn't do it justice but there you are (specs of the machine: c. 1Ghz Pentium, 256mb RAM, IE5 WinNT - GL card? Sorry I'm having one of those days and a recent tweak in the network software seems to have moved things around. Would the OpenGL settings in display be of any use to you?). I look forward to seeing other examples.

Ini: The online instal worked very nicely and so I'd recommend something like:
1. The update link goes straight to the required page.
2. Platform detection offers up the right choices.
3. Things are presented in clear easy to understand English (no technical talk).
4. You give people as few options/tests as possible but a link to a good FAQ which explains what is going on (and an security issues).
5. The page could do with being a little easier on the eye and 'comforting'. Hmm I'm not sure that sound right but you need to put people at their ease - people can get nervous having to instal things on their computer.
You bsically need to make things as smooth and seamless as possible for people if you want less technical users to instal the plug-in.
Hope that helps.
