Im having trouble with putting a backround image with the width 660px and the hight 470px into my page. It will only extend to the limit of content but I want it to be a backround image and completely up in the left corner using <div> alignment that extends to its limit with any material (I want to be able to scroll but the bg image just stays there). I plan on putting the site in an iframe that is 660 by 470px and the entire backround shows nothing more and nothing less and when I scroll it stays in position while the content moves up and down.
Any Help?

That was a bit confusing, but I *think* you want this:

(in a style sheet)

BODY {background:#000 url(myimage.jpg) fixed;}

(That #000 is the color that will be shown until the background image loads.)

Alright slime I have it working but it takes forever to load. Its a 660 by 470 px .jpg file with no compression. I was wondering why it took forever.

What? I thought you said you got it working. Then you said "Its a 660 by 470 px .jpg file with no compression. I was wondering why it took forever." You sorta answered your own question there - it takes forever because it's not compressed. Gotta compress it more.

BTW, it's a good practice to uncheck the "show signature" box when your post is only a sentence or two. =)

Heh, for advice on balancing compression with quality in a jpeg, drop into the photoshop forum, assuming you're using photoshop... but most applications provide some sort of slider where you can set the compression from zero to 100; values between 10 and 30 seem to work best in my case.

[edit: 10 and 30 to me might be 70 and 90 to you, depending on which way the slider goes, sorta.]

A file with those pixel dimensions is going to be a bit hefty no matter what you do to it. If it doesn't have a large range of color, and if the transitions between colors are pretty sharp, you might want to save it as a GIF instead of a JPEG. Don't use MS Image Composer if you've got Photoshop -- that's like shooting spitballs when you've got an AK-47 slung across your back.

Just open your original uncompressed graphic in Photoshop, use File>>Save For Web (or Ctrl-Alt-Shift-S), then in the upper right there'll be a box to choose a compression method. The Save For Web window will give you a preview of what your compressed graphic will look like, but more importantly, it'll show you the compressed file size right below the preview. Toy with the options until you've got a result that balances file size with image quality. Shoot for 25k or less. Honestly, the total size of everything on your web page should be no more than 50k, as a rule of thumb. If you can't make it look good and have a slim file size, you should redesign.

Wow, another Image Composer user.

I've used it for at least two years now, and I hate it. (note that it came in a package of stuff which *included* front page, but my dad got the package for other stuff... and this image editor was just a benifit. Point is, I'm not for the use of FrontPage; I'm strongly against it.) It can *almost* do things, but when you've used it as long as I have, you see problems. Many problems. Serious problems. Like, any color with red green or blue values below abour 64 will start being rounded to arbitrary values. Anything from rgb(0,0,0) to around rgb(8,8,8) is clipped right down to rgb(0,0,0)... this is unnacceptable for gradients and especially height fields intended for use with a 3D program of some sort.

So, anyway, use Photoshop, not MIC. =)

Perfect Thunder, I find it humerous that two seconds ago your post said "no sig yet, give me some time", and now that i'm editing my post, you've replaced that text with an image. =)

Hey, two seconds is "some time." Undeniable fact.

Whoops, my fault. I was assuming 5.5 or 6. PS 4, huh... you might want to search around for a freeware GIF optimizer. I know there are a few, though I haven't researched the topic myself. Anything's likely to be better than MS Image Composer. There's a reason why Microsoft has never attempted to compete in the home graphics market, even down at the Paint Shop Pro level.
