Topic awaiting preservation: Close and link on the same time... (Page 1 of 1)

I have this small pop-up window loaded in front of the webpage and
when I click on a link in the pop-up window I want the pop-up window
to close and then automatically link to a certain page in a certain frame on the main webpage.

Does anyone know how to solve that?

To summerize:
When click ==> Close & link to a certain frame in another window

<a href="whatever.html" target="_parent" onclick="javascript:self.close()">link</a>
