I've a problem with Photoshop 7 that I'm hoping is simple to solve, if it was a snake it would have bit me type deals.

If I'm saving as a Photoshop EPS file I don't have the option to "include vector data" apparently, it's there but it's greyed out. I've never had this problem before so I'm really very puzzled. I even nuked my prefs file and it didn't help.

Can I be hepped?

You're flattening it right? Don't do that.

no ma'am (loosah!)

I've never really understood what good flattening ever does, the only time I do it is when I have about a thousand layers and a file size of a GB =D

Next!

Maybe it's the kind of vector data?
You know, shape layer or work path...?
pfft

The only time i've ever seen that option greyed out... is when your Vector layers are NOT VISIBLE in your layers palette at the time of saving. Make tham visible, and the option should then become avaliable... hopefully. :P

You ARE using PS7, right? Just to be sure we're on the same 'page' here.

warjournal, the cookie collector gets another.

I don't recall the paths having to be shape layers before when saving vector data in an EPS but that worked.

thanks eveybody for heppin

A shot in the dark gets the cookie!
[insert comment about conception]

After reading theGuest's response, I was sure he was going to get it.
Nah-nah-nah!
(Although, I'm sure visibility affects the option as well. I haven't tried it, but I trust theGuest on such things.)

Cookie Cookie Cookie!

Maybe this should be added to the foibles/stupid mistakes??

Ah, the good ol' fashioned define custom shape work around. Had to do that a few times.
When I do go that route, I usually toss an extra little something in the upper-left and lower-right so I can keep the aspect ratio proper when I drag out the custom shape.
Then delete the extra anchors in the corners.

Know what I mean?

shift+drag=aspect maintained

I actually quite like custom shapes and normally use them when I'm done with a project.

1. Make a custom shapes palette with only one shape in it call it empty, save it, load that one

2. Next take all the vector shapes/paths associated with your project and turn them into custom shapes and load em in the "empty palette"

3. delete the one shape in there you started with that's unrelated

4. save the palette and name it to correspond with the project

5. keep a copy and give your client a copy for future reference

Handy stuff for folks without Illustrator

Caught me with a brain fart. Not aspect ratio, but position and size in relation to other things, like other custom shapes.

One day I was making several custom shapes from various colour ranges from a photo. I guess you could say I was layering the custom shapes. Then I had to re-assemble them in a new doc. While shift did mantain aspect ratio, it didn't help make them with the proper size or position in relation to each other.

I've also done this with line art custom shape and the colouring being custom shapes. Line art on top as a custom shape, then various colour underneath as a custom shape.

Helps keep them fine in relation to each other. Trying to get several custom shapes to fit back together with out the extra anchors in the upper-left and lower-right just plain sucks.
That's the short of it.
Know what I mean?

I'm feeling much better now.

Iiiiii gotcha sounds like a tremendous pain in the hindparts. Sounds like a job for Flash's trace bitmap feature.

My sympathies on the post that never was =
