Nice lettering but it looks to me as if the perspective is wrong on the P and the G. although the base of the letters are all in a straight line, the way the depth has been done makes them look as if they are trying to bend backwards, the P to the left and the G to the right

Ya i know... that's just the way it works out in this case -- because of the method used to create the effect. It CAN be done from a straight-on perspective, but that's old'n'boring.

This is what 3D type usually looks like when done in a 3D app. It tends to have a convex distortion by default -- due to default camera settings. The distortion can also make the type look REAL BIG when put into a proper environment.

Like i said though... a straight-on perspective can easily be create instead if one would rather have that look. Instead of scaling the type, just nudge it in a specific direction by 1 pixel.

thats a nice tutorial.. but on the other forum thread ( http://www.photoshopgurus.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3335 ) .. step 2 says Applt the filters listed following. Could I perhaps get more detail as to what filters are applied in step 2.

thanks

Ya sure... just scroll down below that first post where i've attached screenshots of the settings for each filter. I couldn't post all of the settings images in the same post as the text. So they're posted right below the instructions.

Oh well then you must have images turned off or something because there are 3 screenshots posted below the instructions, showing all of the settings for the 3 filters used.

Are you NOT seeing those dialogue window images?
Sometimes, images on boards don't render in if the page is scrolled too soon before the images have a chance to load in.

PS: hey thanks ~VP~. Glad you like. It's an 'eye candy' of an effect, but it's looks tight.

I've seen forums where you need to be registered and logged in to be allowed to download / view attachments... might be worth a try.

Well shiat... i think you may be right there kuckus. The board was set to "Download files=REG". That shouldn't include images though. Just attached files.

But i've changed the setting now so try it again please sib.

And sorry for the confusion/hassle.

I can't find the "default "Metallic" presets"... When you say this, are you talking about text or gradients? Cause I am assuming gradients.

Those are nice glass effects you have in your sig, theGuest.
I'm having problems. I want to learn glass effects, but not the conventional circular glass.

Not bad Hugh, looks good with the perspective shadow.

Flagman... YES, i mean Gradient Presets. I think i do say to use gradients... pretty sure i do.

The glass effect in my sig is a result of my tute, and then scaling them to create an oval. Pretty simple once you have the spheres made.

That example image is definately a 3D app. Don't know that it's 3DMax... could be any 3D app. All he did was create the basic (very basic) shapes and apply a soft glass/plastic material to them. Probably used a few custom lights too. Not much else there though. For sure though some post work done in PS or PSP.

Trying to create that type of effect in just PS alone will entail a lot of work. Especially studying real world glass to understand how it can bend and shape light and reflections. Without that kind of knowledge however, no amount of tutorials will help you create the effect to any believable degree. So i suggest some good ol' fashion eye-balling it to learn what makes glass look/behave the way it does.
