Ok, since I left my ex, I had to downgrade a bit from photoshop 6 at his place down to 4 here at my parents. It sucks big time because I have been used to using the updated features, (like the History window... I miss that!) I do have to ask, is Photoshop 4 still considered pretty good to work with this day in age even on the net or on print? Or do I really need to update, (which is IMPOSSIBLE because of 1. no job, 2. NO MONEY, 3. big bills) or am I ok for now? I still use Mac OS 9.2. What I had at my ex's was the PC version for one, and two it was borrowed from a good friend of mine.

Microsoft Paint is still good enough in this day and age, if you have the skills to make good images with it. Heh, point is, your clients won't care what tool you use, just as long as you produce good work. You'll get used to the differences over time, and I'm sure you'll find that you can produce the same quality work with only a little extra difficulty after a while.

well yeah the older version can get things done but I really prefer a newer version when it comes along (both in women and in programs). probably explains why I'm single and broke though.

4 still rocks.

As for the history.... I find I hardly use the buggah. If you save your project alot, and every time you make a major change you save a new version you really don't have anything to worry about.

The biggest problem i remember was that saving pictuers for web usage was a little of a pain.... But still, it is a rock solid program.

Read somewhere the old versions are better for wacomery, they dont support tilt but there good in terms of speed i.e processors weren't so hot back then.

Well, speed is not longer a problem with me. I got a nice processor upgrade card. Now an only beige g3 266 is now a rocket G4 500. I love the speed on it. Now it runs Photoshop, Illustrator, Poser and Audion flawlessly. I love it. Best christmas present I got.

I'd be happy to have a software downgrade to Photoshop 4 ...
as long as it came with a self upgrade to Creativity 10 ...

Really though .. have you seen some of the work Kai Krause did, way back in the days of PS2 ?? I doubt there's really anything particularly innovative from PS5 onwards. Basically it seems to me that the changes have been in packaging all those "things you have to do in several steps" into "buttons you can click for an effect".

I started on PS4 and a handfull of Hands-On tutorials.

The updrades since then have been nice, but not nothing that you can't do without IMHO. Although, if I remember correctly, PS4 only has one Undo, that annoyed the hell out of me when I switched back from PS5 to PS4 when I moved to a new job.
