First of all, use thumbnails or text links, a lot of the forum users here are on dialup and don't appreciate being smacked with 200+ k of data in the first post of a thread.
Secondly, what the hell is a bling bling type of effect?
Thirdly, Which one do I think is clean?... None.
Their all messy, filter canned and well... un asthetic. Although, maybe if you let us know what this was for we could offer better advice. Simply asking if somehting is clean isn't going to get you the kind of advice you want. In fact, clean is the opposite word I'd use to describe those images.

I have to agree with Drac - not clean at all. Very cluttered and messy, very canned looking, and what the hell is a 'bling bling type of effect'??

must not work with very many black people lol... bling bling meaning "flashy or gaudy jewelry, named for the sound generated when worn." .. this is to appeal to an urban culture that like things in your face and for lack of a better word gaudy... any of you seen the horrible cd cover designs from no limit records? if not here's one...
..
and i was going for a glass-type effect... any suggestions to clean it up? -gage

The layer with the texture is too busy. Way to veiny. Try some Gauss to smooth it out.

Well sure - bling bling.
But what the hell is a 'bling bling effect'?
If "gaudy" was your goal, then you've hit it. But no, it doesn't look like glass.
The canned bevels are way too....well, canned. Fake. White.
The "flares" are rather odd, and again - too white.
The reflection or whatever it is, like warjournal said, is far too busy. I would highlky recommend finding some real-life reference material to study for a bit, to get a better idea of what you're trying to replicate.

hahahaa... man you guys are showing your age huh? hehe BLING! BLING!
I'd suggest doing a search for "photoshop bling bling". You'll find several tutes on this 'effect'.
Nice try though gage. Perhaps adding some colour would clarify the effect. B&W is hard to create with, and especially so with this 'style'.

"any of you seen the horrible cd cover designs from no limit records?" I'd agree they are terrible just like the music on the cds so why bother trying to create the same thing? Get yourself some decent music and do something original

Gage...
The "bling bling" refers to the diamond effect usually found "inside" the text of those CD covers. Photoshop's "Glass" filter (FILTER>Disort>Glass) will produce the effect quite well. Just fill your type with the clouds filter, then apply the Glass filter to the clouds.
Here... check this out: http://www.photoshopgurus.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2729&highlight=bling+bling
PS: and for those of you who know me, and are snickering to yourselves behind my back... NO... this is NOT something i've spent a lot of time on. I did this for someone on my own Forum.

Would just like to clarify again that yes, I (and I'm sure everyone else) is familiar with 'bling bling' (though I feel anyone using the term should be shot on sight).
But the question was "what's a bling bling effect?"
And I still have to say I don't get it.
You want it shiny? Say shiny. You want diamonds? Say diamonds. Platinum? Say Platinum...
But then again....I hate just about any term being followed by the word "effect".

Hey, I remember that. I did some Googling for that effect and got some pretty crappy tutorials. What's up with using Noise? :yech: Guest's recommendation is definitely one of the better ones.
I feel your pain, DL, but on a different level. I live under a rock and usually have no idea about slang terms. After some time on Google, I realized that my closest association with 'bling bling' is the original airings of "The A-Team".
My pet peeve is the word 'technic'. Everytime someone uses that word, I think about Lego sets.

Awww, Guest, we all know you live for the bling, bay-bee.
WJ : Man, I live in a cave and know what bling-bling is. That must be some rock !
Practice, learn the tools, observe, recreate. The DL-44 effect.
