got a bit of a wip goin... C&C would be useful as this is a first try for me (so try not to stomp on me too badly )

I think you've made a good start, Lacuna. She's pretty

I think you need more shading to really bring out the shape of her face and make her come alive. The contours of her nose as well as mouth area (lines by her mouth) and definitely the eyelids/under the eyes could do with shading. More dark tones and, possibly, more light tones once you've darkened her up. Her neck needs shaping/rounding.

Amerasu: thanks for that! i'm not a painter yet...just a grasshoppah i actually wanted to do something for the speed paint this time... but just haven't (cuz i'm not worthy LOL)

ok... worked on the things you suggested...and while it's better... i still don't think i'm quite gettin it.
i'm goin to keep messing with it a bit more tonight though....

well... i worked on it a bit more...think i better got what you were talkin about Amerasu...at least i hope i did! i keep trying not to be afraid to use more color/contrast, but it frightens me LOL
i also don't think i'm doing very well trying to achieve any "roundness" in her neck either....

In regard to her neck, the roundness I meant was more anatomy than shading. I usually go here www.fineart.sk for quick anatomy references (it looks like they're off for a bit) but a neck shot can be found anywhere. I found a decent one here. That site is also a great place for quick anatomy references.

So how about some hair? Are you going to finish her off? There are some great hair tutorials here:

I think you are doing a great job on the color and shading of the skin. My only complaint would be the the shape of the eye, it looks a bit off. The actual detail of the eye is great, though! All in all this is coming along quite nicely, and I also look forward to some hair.

she's got hair!! woohoo! it's only taken 5 attempts
for whatever reason...every attempt i made at nice straight flowin hair just went horribly. not that curly is all that much better.. but...well...it is.

i'm still doing much work on it... it just feels too soft or something. but it's an improvement. heh
of course... C&C still more than welcome

Is she supposed to look that angry ?

Hair, very nice! I like the curls, they're looking good. Nice colour too. A bit of sharper detail would be cool in the hair. Just as you said above - too soft. The additional detail would also match the way you've painted her face.

Anyway, she's looking good so far Lacuna. And I don't think she looks angry, perhaps just a little serious

hair... what a pain in the ass! but i think it looks way better than when i started. hehe the whole thing does actually! i don't think she looks "angry".....

cloudman: yeah...that eye is buggin me too... but quite honestly, i'm too lazy right now to fiddle with it. though, i'm sure it'll be fixed by the time i call it done

oof! that hair is fantastic, not entirely photoreal but insanely appealling. nice stuff. Those eybrows are flat as a pancake though, look like they're floating there; you could work on the shadows/depth around the ocular cavities, especially on top under the eyebrows. The nose holes look a bit crisp around the edges. Those are the only things that bother me at a glance.

That's just pretty.

though...i'm not getting what you're meanin about her eyebrows...i futzed around with tryin to make several different shadows and such...and none of them just seemed to be coming out right. and since you mentioned it...i've been watching everyone's eyes/eyebrows....lookin for my missed shadows...to no avail. but i did get my eyebrows tweezed since i spent so much time lookin at them :P
i also missed fixin her nose... but will make sure i catch it this time around.
i did, however, fix her eye....and got a background in there that i like.

Lookin really good, Lacuna.
You have added some shading in the eye socket area since I saw it last, they just need to be deeper to make the sockets look farther back.
Only other nit pic is some skin shading on the forehead is needed to show roundness.

Nice job on the hair.

The eyebrows are too arched... And too high. Her nostrils are too low and too big. I really like the lips but the lighting is off for those, too. The hair is good, the curls my be slightly consistant and that makes it slightly unrealistic but I still love the hair. Her eyes aren't the right shape and her upper eyelashes fan way too upward making it look like she's a porcilin(sp?) doll. The eyeballs themselves look like they're coming out of her socket where as they should be back, behind the skin. Her forehead is extremely flat... And where are her ears?

I really like this painting but I think it could improve and be godly with some more work.
