Topic awaiting preservation: Photoshop lag trouble... (Page 1 of 1)

Photoshop 7 is lagging when I bring up layer properties and such. For instance, I'll select a layer and open up layer properties... 7-10 seconds later... the window pops up. When I first installed PS7, it was instant, but now after a year or so, it is like this. Any suggestions short of reinstalling (which I am going to do if there are no suggestions or if the suggested fixes are ineffective) would be appreciated.

Not sure if it'll help ya but the first thing I do if PS starts acting weird is trash the preferences file and restart PS.

Make sure all your "libraries" are saved, then empty them completely. The "Patterns" and "Vector Shapes" are the worst culprits. They'll jack up the file size of an empty doc to about 200+ or so. And if you've never emptied them before, they'll be huge.

Try loading PS again after emptying these libraries and see what gives.

Might also check to see what other apps are running in the background.
