Topic awaiting preservation: jewelry tut? (Page 1 of 1)

Hey guys, been awhile since I dropped a question. I haven't had anything that I needed to ask, with alot of practicing and playing, i've learned how to do just about all the things I wanted...
I just wanted to know, is there a tutorial for PS6, to create jewelry, you know, diamonds and gold?

jewelry is a very broad term, and could encompass a very wide variety of shapes, textures, material, etc.

You need to change your way of thinking about it a bit.

Rather than a "jewelry" tutorial, what you need is to understand the different materials involved.
Get to understand the properties of different metals that make them look the way they do.
Get to know what kind of shapes gems are commonly cut to, and how light reflects and refracts on and through them.

If possible, get real life examples to observe and study. If not, get photos. Google should give you all you need in that regard.

The better you understand the objects you want to create, and why they look the way they do, the better chance you have of recreating them.

And then of course, it's practice practice practice.

There are a lot of basic techniques that will come into play, it's just a matter of figuring out how to put them together.

There are some great tutorials at the Gurus Network that can help with a lot of the techniques that will help you out with such a project, even though they have nothing directly to do with jewelry.

Of course, if you are tying to cr-create diffraction, reflection, etc... a science book will be more useful, as DL44 said...

Why we must always think in a 2D mindset to create 3D objects is beyond me.
There are many ways to create....finding the right tools to do the job is the first step.

Personaly I would jump to a 3D app to create these types of objects.

Obviously!...and it doesn't hurt to look "beyond the horizon" either
