I thought I would start a new thread for this. It has been awhile.

PS Stupid Mistakes

Have you encountered a stupid mistake lately? Let's have it and I'll get it added (or you can do it yourself if you have the gumption).

Colour Picker dialoge thing by Ghislaine. This did come up not too long ago, but I can't remember by whom.

Now, that colour picker dialoge can be used to set points (black, 50% grey, white) in Curves and Levels. Can this be done from other dialogs?

Another good one is the Foreground/Background thing. When you select a colour from the canvas and it goes into the background instead of the foreground. I know this can be fixed from the Colour palette, but I think I recently heard that there is a shortcut. I think something like ctrl + d or shift + d or something.

While I'm at it, should I make a general call for foibles on other PS forums?

What you got?
Hit me!

One that I have had problems with a bit -

making sure that the line-tool settings are on 'fill pixels' rather than 'shape layer' when making a line

On the same note, making sure the pen tool is set for 'paths' rather than shape layer.

Remembering to turn off your background layer before saving for web...

OMG! What was Adobe thinking when they did that?! AaaagH!
That drives me insane! pffft!

Hey WJ feel free to start this over at our forum too man, it could be a lot of laughs.

Oh, yeah. That Line tool thing.
Drag out a line.
Hit ctrl + z.
Click the proper button.
Drag out the line again.

Of course, not the first few times before knowing about the change in behavior.
Grrr!

One that gets me is the way the new Brush dialog and options work. I go through all the trouble setting up the options (Scatter, Texture, and all that) only to have it disappear when I click on a preset instead of a tip shape. Why isn't my angle scatter working anymore? Crud!

Guest, I started it over there.
Should prove interesting.
I'll start one at PST later today.

^ yeah, especially when you paint for about 5 minutes on the wrong layer, then decide you want to just nudge over about 3 pixels.....

arrgghhhh!

WJ, usually, people just do CRTL+x to invert the foreground and background colour. but it doesn't "fix" wich colour is affected in the colour palette (and when you ALT+click in the image)

For the new preset/brush tip shape, don't you feel it is insane that the right click lets you choose a new preset, instead of another brush tip shape? Hopefully, CS lets you lock the parameters you want in the brush window!

What I forget to do sometimes, is to save the snapshots before closing the image...

My biggest foibles are outside of Photoshop.. I try to use the spacebar to scoll webpages!

WJ, if you want, you can start one thread about foibles at PhotoshopTechniques as well! you're right, gathering those is needed!

Got caught up in a few other things, so I'm taking my sweet time getting back to this. :sigh: When I learn?

Hey, sPEC. Yeah, I'll start a thread for this over at PST later today. I promise.

I also hate when I start drawing and see nothing appear 'coz the brush is set in a blending mode and color that have no effect on the underlying layers ( e.g. painting in white in multiply mode ). Or when I go crazy with shortcuts ( when didn't I in PS ? ) and re-activate a selection of few pixels and try to paint in vain.

sPECtre: I'm also addicted to the spacebar. Hopefully spacebar & shift+spacebar scrolls respectively one page down and up.

Bonjour, poi!

Yes I meant to use the space bar (I was about to type the scrollbar) to "grab" the weppage, a la photoshop, I'm sure that you understood it trough the french>english>french translation

Ah, yes, painting in black on screen mode, switch it back to normal, swear, switch the layer's blending mode to normal...
