No wait, it looks more like a Goblin. Anyways, some crits would be nice on this. I might crop it out and 2x it then polish it up to make it "finished."

Anyways, crits and comments both welcome and wanted.

This is why I love the Asylum. Great feedback everyone .

No seriously, is it that bad, or is it just sort of in a limbo between good and bad that makes it look mundane and therefor boring or something. I could really use some crits.

BTW: This is a sorta-redo of my first orc head.

Nice image counterfeitbacon. I pressume you are using a wacom board? The feel is very freehand which I think is good. I just wonder what kind of feeling you are after...is it an evil orc (all orcs are evil, right?) or is it a cartoonish orc? Anyway here are some of my humble thoughts...

1. The second image isn't saying anything to me. I can't figure out if he is evil, good, sad, dead or alive. First of all decide what kind of feeling you want and then make sure that your drawing reflect that.
2. Try to make the shadows somewhat colder (add some blue). That will make the red hue even warmer and the image will get more alive.
3. The first image is more artistic in a way, with the combination of images and words (cookies to anyone who can give me the band name =). To me the orc in that image is more alive. Perhaps he feels more like a goblin...

That was my thoughts on your images - You asked for it and you got it. Keep up the good work!

Huh? I was thinking about the damned ACLU when I wrote that. Civil liberties my ass.

Anyways, Yah, on the second (and oldeR) picture, I was going for a, erm, 'sophisticated orc.' On the second I was going for a young rebellious orc, but it looks like a goblin more.

I've never really like the whole orcs are big and brutal image. It works in Warcraft, but seriously, theres got to be more to them than that.

I realized about a month after making the second one too that it should of has some more color.

The nose on the first one looks bad, and it needs some more definition (hence the WIP), and I think I'll remove the boxy ness on top of his head (but right now I have 5 hours till I have to 'get up' for school and have a report (which I haven't started) done (a 'full' meaning 5-10 page (double spaced so not that much really) a full analysis on Thoreau's ideology. It sucks))

I thought "Orc" was just another word for "Goblin"... I guess D&D made the distinction though, yes?

The first one is a little on the cartoon-y side, but I like the face better than the second one. I think you could take that form and add some more detail and get a really nice picture out of it.
They both seem very unfinished...

The second one doesn't seem very Orc-ish at all - the face is very human looking. Just has some nubbly horns on his forehead.

Orcs/Goblins are parodys of humans. Their features and limbs are exaggerated, and nightmarish. Their skin would probably be swarthy with dirt (as they tend to live in holes in the ground), but on the whole very pale (as they tend to live in holes in the ground). Eyes largeish (for seeing in the dark), and have carnivorous teeth (as they prefer to feast on raw human flesh). Take that first drawing and evil it up a little bit... I think you could go somewhere with it...

argh. I've been writing essays and studiny for midterms and haven't had time to paint.

The top one is pretty prelimiary. The second one is old and as far as it's gunna go.

Bohdi: Thats just the DnD and common perceptions of Orcs. When I read the Tolkien books (yes, BEFORE the movies) I got the image that they loo pretty much like what I'd drawn, just meaner. Then Blizzard came out with Warcraft. Anyays, he has the pointy ears, brownish skin and horns. I think that that is what Orcs should be according to the LOTRs anyways.

Yup, the second one is a Goblin. Or, what a Goblin IMO looks like. I need to work on it. Dammit.

I was involved in the design of an upcoming (perhaps) MMORPG. One of the issues we discussed were race backgrounds. I proposed that Elves and Orcs were of the same lineage only somewhere in the line did a disease (or curse) occur that caused some Elves to become what are now known as Orcs. I did an analysis of the two races and found that the two are nearly equal aside from appearances and desires.

Of course, it is understandable that the Orcs would lust for war and blood since they feel they were wrongly punished. Since the Orcs concentrate on the killing of Humans, we can use our imagination to suggest that there was some Human sorcerer, wizard, witch, or warlock that cursed these poor Elves and that the split between Orcs and Elves happened during a struggle for political power. Ah, dammit, I feel like writing a book now...

Nice work counterfeitbacon, tell me, I might have missed it, but what method are you using to create the images? Is it a Wacom or some other drawing tablet, or are you scanning then PS?

Now we're talking! The last image is by far the best IMHO. The only thing I can think of is that it looks like he has a small beard. Orcs don't have beards...at least not the ones I have met.

Cool technique with the different strokes of colors making lines and wrinkles in the face.

At the end of the day it's only you yourself that can judge if the result is waht you intended, but I like it.
