Pros:
1. A layered TIFF with ZIP compression has a smaller file size than a PSD.
2. A 16-bit, layered TIFF will display in IMatch, while a 16-bit PSD will not.

Can anyone give me any cons?

TIFF w/zip: much higher read/write times for the file due to the compression I would assume. Can not turn off composite image.

PSD: much quicker read times due to native format. With composite image turned off, file sizes were actually significantly smaller in my testing. My TIFF was 5.5mb with zipped layers and zipped image data, while my PSD was 1.9mb with it's composite image turned off. PSD's can be read into other programs with their layers intact or at least accesible, I'm not sure about layered TIFFs.

MB - Its the same with other editors i know.

But i think the zipping is for transporting reasons. I have not tested a lot in image file compression, so dont quote me on what i say.

Well, I'm working with about 60Mb files right now and I'm not noticing much difference in read/write times. And since I plan to open these only in Photoshop, I'm not real worried.

Being able to to view them in IMatch seems to put the TIFFs over the top. Maybe the next version will read 16-bit PSDs properly.
