When I select one of the "X% grey" swatches, I get an olive green color. For instance, 50% grey is giving me rgb(129, 129, 105). I assume that all of my colors are thrown off like this.

I've fiddled with the color settings (color management is currently turned off), and even deleted photoshop's settings file, but I can't make grey grey. Selecting different color settings makes the problem *worse* in some cases, but not better.

This is Photoshop 6.1. Any help would be appreciated...

Very odd indeed, I have no idea but I'll throw some suggetions in anyways.

Are you working on a RGB file or some other colour space?

Could this be related to adobe gamma? (Start->control panel->adobe gamma) -- But this sould only effect your monitor not PS.

Is your monitor set to 32 bit colour? -- Can't hurt to check, the internal PS colour engine could be doing weird stuff on you.

Set your proof setup to "Monitor RGB". (In PS -> View -> Proof Setup -> Monitor RGB) <- PS7 - might be the same for PS6.

Beyond that I'm completly stumped. But do post the solution if and when you find it. I'm curious as to what setting could do that and why anyone would want to do that to PS.

After using PS a little more, I can see that the only thing displaying this problem is the swatches. If I select a specific RGB color via the color picker on the left toolbar, I get the exact color I chose. However, if I hover over a greyscale entry on the swatch, I see:

K: 50%

next to

R: 129
G: 129
B: 105

It baffles to me as to how it thinks that 50% black is rgb(129,129,105). When i choose that swatch entry, I get exactly that RGB color.

The actual image, however, displays the correct colors I use. So if I select 50% black on the swatch, and paint with it, then I'll get rgb(129,129,105) on my canvas. The canvas is displaying correct colors; only the swatch is messed up. Resetting the swatch doesn't help. (After all, the K values are correct, it's just the RGB values which aren't.)

Unfortunately, none of your suggestions helped. =\

What about the various palette 'slider' and 'spectrum' settings?
