Topic awaiting preservation: Project Code Name:Grenade. Top secret...wait. (Page 1 of 1)

I wanted to start a project that would incorperate any and all skills I'm trying to learn right now. Shape making, lighting, layer effects, textures, and many others. I learn best through trial and error, so I figured I would jump right into this one, and learn as I go. I finished my shape making, and although it looks incredibly basic, It's a good starting point.

I plan on changing the colors around, and this is just a very rough draft of what the outline will look like. Please offer as much feed back and critaque the hell out of this one. Be harsh if needed(it's needed) I need to know what really looks bad, and what looks decent. If at all possible, please direct me in the general direction of some tuts on different textures that may look good, I.E. Metal, hard weathered steel, aluminum.

i don't think that there's too much to critique here. you have the basic shape.
do you have a reference photo you're working from? if not...get one. that'll help you with textures and whatnot.
as for texture tuts... the faq here and google is where i'd start looking

Yeh, as far as critiqueing, do all the parts look to scale to you? Everything look like a grenade?
Yeh, I do have a base picture I was working off of, but I didn't make it look exactly like that picture.

well, since i dunno what the hell a grenade looks like... i googled an image. ( here if you care to look) and other than yours being a lil fatter...it looks fine.

That is actually the grenade I was working off of.

As far as proportions go (as compared with the photo Lacuna found), you need to work on them some more. Your pin is too small, the top bit is too big, the main part is too big, and the lever(?) isn't the right shape.
