it all depends on your skills...its not much of animation program anyway...you can creat some pretty cool gifs and optimize alot of images for the web...but if you want animation I would say try Macromedia Flash instead

Hello halo and welcome
Have a look at some of Mahjqa's work here for examples of ImageReady's capabilities.
I suppose it all depends apon what kind of animation you wish to do, as Ruski said Flash is great for animation as well.

Hi Halo,
Like everyone else, I believe that ImageReady will take you as far as you wish to go... Flash is wonderful and will take you a few steps farther with it's scripting ability et all, but ImageReady has great potential.

I have a site up that was started in Illustrator and finished in ImageReady: http://home.earthlink.net/~sparkywalker
It is a little cheesy as it was a class project and I was eager to make the grade and forget about it, but I was able to do everything but fttp it right there in ImageReady.

It will write simple Javascript for you via the rollover option, it will tween for you, it will write image maps, it will give you most of the editing power that Photoshop will give you, (ie it still retains layers and gives you the power to do a quick fix if you notice something isn't quite right).

Try it out, I think you might be surprised at the varied options that are offered!

This is a little outdated, but Adobe Photoshop 6.0 Web Design with ImageReady 3 and GoLive5 by Michael Baumgardt is pretty good.

As a total aside: Ruski is right about optimization. If you want to create an animated gif and have it look good, optimizing with IR is the best way to go.

I know exactly what you mean halo. I had been playing 'round in PS for well over a year, and thought I had a pretty good grasp of everything it could do (Hah) Then I found this place and realised I knew nothing Slowly, with the help of folks here, I have learned so much, and what's more, I discovered, a new passion for all things Photoshop.
Here is one of the first sigs I made.

After following suggested tutorials (which, if you like PhotoShop, are a joy to learn) and advice in the Forums I developed it to this.

Follow the links for the "HandsOn" tutorials at the bottom of the page and If you have any questions about specific things, post away and ask. Or post up some work of your own.
