I can't figure out why the text in my internal scroll bar is not expanding all the way, so that the bottom scroll bar pops up instead of the text getting moved down to the next line. Any suggestions on how to fix this???

The main purpose of making this internal scroll bar was so the text would not move down onto the next line....Ahhh.

Text wraps by default.

Try applying this CSS property to the box to change that:

white-space:nowrap;

(See http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/text.html#white-space-prop )

However, all browsers are not *required* to support this property (although I wouldn't be surprised if all of the popular ones do). No big deal since it's not really 100% integral to the page.

GN: Use a DIV not a P tag (P tags come with different formatting by browsers DIVs tend not to).

[edit2: for scrollers without iframes see:

:FAQ:

and check out the cross browser iframe effect if you do want to remotely load stuff in]

I would think about using more CSS on your page as it is weighed down with FONT and CENTER tags. And don't use an IFRAME for what appears to be a simple scrolling effect. Sorry I couldn't help commenting on it.

[edit: Ahhhhhhh and I also think I misunderstood the question]

Emps,
What other things could I use for scrolling?

Also, if I change my text size's to pixels, would that over ride when people change the text size in the view option? I noticed if you view my page on a large text, it gets real big and ugly...

Big and ugly to you; readable to the person who feels it's necessary to set it that large.

Yes, px-sized fonts override your user's preferences. So show respect for your users and don't use them.

Maybe I will just do it on a couple of things on my page that look real bad when the font size is increaed, on my main page only. Like the title and where it says "Gateway to understanding reality." That text is pretty big as it is.

Blah...

Anyway, I decided you were right, and changed the layout quite a bit, but I will not be able to update it until tommorow. Thanks for you input...

Well, my biggest question is - why on earth would you *want* a horizontal scrollbar forcing the viewer to scroll left>right>left>right>left>right>left to read the list???

ACK!

I honestly can't think of much *worse* to do than making that box scroll horizontally, both from a simple visual standpoint and from a usability standpoint.

I agree DL. I decided not to do it. Once I get to work in the morning, I will upload it for you guys. It looks pretty nice, I think, but of course it's hard to meet the grueling standards of the Asylum.

{edit--DL I was going to have it set up so that if you were viewing the page with regular sized fonts it wouldn't appear, but if someone used larger fonts, then the horizontal thing would appear.}

Ok, I fixed it up some, but I have not messed with the text yet, Emps. I don't really know how this works, but I will be figuring it out. I was wondering though, if I put all my text info into a style sheet, won't it only show up in certain browsers, and Netscape will only display the default font?

Fixed Up Site - If anyone has Mozzilla or Netscape, or something I was wondering what this looks like.

{edit-and if you'll notice Slime, it looks good with any text size selected }
