I'm positive I've seen this before, but I don't know if it's possible with just HTML or if I need something more complex. What I need is an HTML way to make a background image not scroll along with the rest of the page. I can't think of any example links at the moment, but hopefully someone understands what I mean. If this is not possible with just HTML, also, please let me know.

What you need is CSS

Specifically, the background-attachment property.

style>
<!--
body {
background : URL of background image;
background-repeat : no-repeat;
}
-->
</style>

BTW, it's called watermarking.

background-repeat won't make the image stationary, it will only mean that the image will appear only one time.

This may also be part of what xel is after, but what was asked was how to make it not scroll...and for this you need 'background-attachment:fixed;'

If you're looking for a non-repeating watermark, you'll also want to set the background-position.

Thanks DL. Was hoping I could get away with some simple bgscroll="no" or something like that, bah

Cool. Went ahead and tried it, took a little bit of thought power, but wasn't difficult. Thanks again DL. I have to say though, it took me a little bit to realize what the hell to do with the CSS code, .. I was looking at the code "Body { ..blablabla.. bla.. }" and didn't realize for the longest time that I had to <STYLE>-tag it. Heh, serves me right for not starting at the beginning.

contrary to what these morons told you, it IS indeed possible to use only html to achieve a non scrolling background..your tag would look like this.
<BODY background="http://www.djnd.com/rightbar.jpg" bgproperties="fixed">

have a good day, sorry it took me over a year to notice this forum, that's just the way shit is.

ah... just what I needed today.

Some guy insulting us for adhering to web standards - bgproperties is not in any HTML standard as far as I can see, so using the CSS version is rather what you'd want to do.

so long,

Congratulations, you have, in your very first post, both managed to insult the regular members of this board *and* prove yourself to not know as much as you obviously think you do about web design. TP is correct, bgproperties is not part of the W3C standards. in fact the only place it appears in conjunction with the W3C is in HTMLTidy, and only then becuase HTMLTidy tries to take into account all those little proprietary pieces of code the browser scripters put in, like Microsoft did with bgproperties. So go on then, whore your code to Microsoft's 'standards' if you so choose, but don't come around here and call those of us who actually give a shit about cross-browser capabilities morons, when you yourself can't even comply with standards. Have a nice fucking day.
