I have not seen this tag before.
A friend of mine showed me fancy scrolling word using <marquee>Hello</marquee>
Do you know it?
If so, where can I find those kind of fun stuff?
I always go to w3schools.com but there are no such a thing, aren't there?

I believe that is an IE-only tag. It was never legitimate HTML.

Please, please don't use it.

Besides, I've never believed a scrolling marquee was a practical way to convey information on a computer screen. On the side of a building, yes. At the bottom of a TV screen where space is limited, sure. On a Web page where the information could be displayed all at once in a more readable manner? No.

Yup, it is a proprietary IE tag, just like <blink> was proprietary Netscape (the difference being that NN doesn't support the blink tag anymore, thank God). It is not to be used under any circumstances, except perhaps for playing cruel jokes on your friends. Even then you have to be careful, though, as it has been known to cause emotional scarring. Don't believe me? Then click away, but don't say I didn't warn you (note: this is for demonstration purposes only).

If we do catch you using it, we will take you out behind the Asylum where you will get your 9 grams to the back of the head.

Hi, Wes, Hi, Suho.
Many thanks for your reply.
No, I will never use on my web sites.
BTW, what does this mean???

Hehe... yes, that is the old Soviet-style execution, where they take you out and shoot you in the back of the head. For some reason I enjoy using this gruesome phrase. Maybe I should change it to something like "9,000 volts to the back of the head."

Oh, and I'm glad to hear you won't be using marquee. Helps me save ammunition.

Who had the execution method where they walk you down a corridor and shoot you at a random point during the walk? Was it also Stalinist Russia?

Yup, definitely sounds like Stalin's Russia. I would've hated to have been the guy who had to clean up that corridor...

Nowadays <marquee> even works in Mozilla. Don't ask me why.

<blink> works in the newest version of moz, not that it matters.

The W3, for some reason, actually made the CSS property "text-decoration:blink;" or something similar to that, which has the same effect as the blink tag.

Dunno what they were thinking.

~going to the roof with his old Real big machine gun ~

The first who uses marquee or blink better stays inside the building, or die somewhere outside......

i played around with marqee when i first started with html (not so long ago)
and it seemed to be capable of some interesting effects but, alas...
i guess i would compare it to an orphaned child--often abused, misunderstood, and rejected

Please, please, please don't use <marquee> (or <blink> for that matter). Just say no.
