Does anyone know of a software (free?) that converts html into valid xhtml?

The only free software I use is my brain with the rules of XHTML in my head. If that fails I would try google. I am not sure if HTMLTidy would do this, but it might be worth a shot.

It turns out that A List Apart ( http://www.alistapart.com ) has an article titled "Better Living Through XHTML" ( http://www.alistapart.com/articles/betterliving/ ) supposedly does a good job of walking you through the process and tells you about HTMLTidy. Good luck.

Dave Raggett's html Tidy: http://www.w3.org/People/Raggett/tidy/

I use it as a plugin to BBEdit, but there is a web interface too: http://cgi.w3.org/cgi-bin/tidy/
(Not loading for me this afternoon but it used to....)

Look no further than our own Mr. Max's HTML Beauty. You won't see the feature 'out of the box', but Max did discuss how to do it in a thread here a few months back.

Back when I still had my computers, I set it up that way, and it saved a LOT of time. It basically uses Tidy, and then a feature which 'self corrects' the errors (if that makes sense). I haven't set it up on this 'loaner' PC yet.
