I have been designing websites for 1 1/2 years and just may nab my 4th client. Tomorrow we have scheduled our second meeting, so no hands-on work has been started as of yet. I am charging $35/hour for non database-related work and $45/hour for database-related work. Yes, I may be able to charge more, but these figures represent a comfortable range suited for my current skill level. Anyways, I was wondering how some of you set up your clients' payment schedules. For example, if you are getting an hourly wage, do you agree to get a check every 2 weeks? Every 1 week? Just wondering.

Thanks.

I always go 50% up front and 50% on completion, that way if a client tries to bail you've still got something for your work.

Fuck hourly rates. Use them to determine your flat fee, and fit everything in that. Then you're not accused of feeding your costs with excess, or just charging them to jerk off to porn. I do a flat fee, 30 day warantee to fix any small errors, and then charge hourly to do any fixes past that.

By the way, I snagged that client. I am psyched.

twItch^, I like your idea about a 30 day warranty to fix any errors. Included in the proposal to my new client, I gave them my best estimate of total hours, then translated those hours to one $ figure. For this project, I am going to submit my hours every 2 weeks and receive payment accordingly.

Maybe I will ask 50% of total cost upfront for my next client. Either way, I have a new client to beef up the old resume.

Thanks
