I'm from Montreal and I have a job offer (junior XSI artist) for a Design and effects studio in New York city and they are offering me 25 000$us and health insurance. Does anybody know if it is a good deal considering costs of living in New York. How much should I ask for? If anybody can give me valuable advice and informations, it would be very nice. |

mart: Sounds good - entry level positions are a great start. Some of NY people could give you more advice on the money. |

$25,000 is crap for New York. In Milwaukee, I'd consider it the low end of "enh, I guess I need the health insurance", but for New York? That's starvation wages. Then again, it's possible... and you know what they say, "if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere." Just don't carry much cash on you, and leave your credit cards at home unless you're shopping. |

I tend to agree with PT, New York has a very high cost of living compared to most other states. However, the health benefits are nice to have. This may open up some doors for you however, and I think my conscience would tell me to go for it. New York is filled with design opportunities. |
