I get a little bit of a horizontal scroll bar in IE6 (1280x1024 res) . Also, I get the "Features" and "Admiration" shoved under the orange and yellow lines at the top when I minimize my brower (well not minimize, but when I like double click on the title bar, what the hell do you call that)
There should be a way that when the browser size is changed, the position of those elements don't move so far up.
Only one thing that kind of bugs me and that is the italicized links on mouseOver. Other than that I think that site is really coming along nicely and rather quickly.

The site looks pretty good.
Congratulations.
I did manage to find one thing that bother me though...it is in the way of content.
>>Topic Archives
>>A Female President
>>paragraph #5
quote: besides that, Mayor Giuliani showed more skill in a crisis than she [Hillary C*****n], the state's governor, did.
Hillary C*****n is not the State of New York's governor. In fact, she is a Senator.
The governor is George Pataki.
One other thing...
When the window is approx 960px wide, the National ID Cards link covers two lines...
National ID
Cards
...but when one hovers, and it turns italics, it goes to 1 line...
National ID Cards
...which makes the whole column jump up and down. Kind of annoying.
I would suggest a forced NOWRAP or a forced <BR>
Either way should fix the problem.
Or just do away with the italics on hover...
Also...all of the links down to 'National ID Cards' turn yellow on hover.
All of the links below, don't...why?
The more I look at this, the more I agree with myself.
Do away with the italics on hover.

Allewyn: Your script is the same as the one Wakkos mentioned here:
www.ozoneasylum.com/Forum2/HTML/001305.html
and it doesn't look like it will work in Op5 - are you saying it will work in Op6? Now that would be progress.
Your top yellow bar sits on/behind the top lot of text like features and admiration.
Also I don't think anyone has pointed it out but the grumble link goes to WarMage's site!!!!
Its looking much better in other browsers now too (well in Op5 anyway) - well the yellow bars don't show up (and the asylum ring box is off centre) but the problem with the buttons is sorted.

Allewyn: The horizontal scrollbar thing is tricky as there is so much positioning and absolute and relative widths its going to be difficult to track down and will probably involve tweaking until its right. My first guess would be that it might be something to do with this:
code:
#contentLayer{
position : absolute;
background-color : #333333;
top : 1px;
left : 1px;
margin : 2px 2px 2px 2px;
/*height : 349px;*/
width : 100%;
ETC
It appears to be as wide as the screen and a little bit. Try getting rid of the left position and the left and right margins and see if that helps.

GRUMBLE: It actually happens at most screen resolutions - Allewyn: Did that solution not work that I proposed above? Its difficult to track down the problem but some tweaking should nail it.

That's weird. I don't see it locally or when I access the site with IE6 or NN6.2.1
I wrote the site for v5+ browsers and the only thing I see that might cause this is the 2px
margin. I'll try to fix this but it's gonna be hard when I can't see it locally.
Incidentally, I loaded a new blue and white site yesterday. Does that still happen?

Great! Thanks for that ray of hope Now if I can just find a way for it to work in Opera...any ideas?
I posted the script in the Dhtml cell to see if anyone can help me with the thing for Ox but haven't had much useable feedback. Maybe it isn't possible. I almost gave up on Shitscape but found that by desinging for N6 it worked in IE just fine. Who knows, maybe designing for Opera will make all three work. Heh, do I want to redesign it...gulp.

Allewyn: I posted a similar question and came up with a similar answer (i.e. you can't script for the IFRAME in Opera):
www.ozoneasylum.com/Forum2/HTML/001305.html
It doesn't appear to be possible in Opx although I'm open to suggestions. I'm giving this one some serious thought and the only thing I can think of is to use server side scripting to spot Opx and then rather than a link like:
<a rel="nofollow" href="javascript: loadPage ('main.php', 'center')">Click here</a>
it would pump out the link:
<a rel="nofollow" href="main.php" target="center">Click here</a>
It would be simple enough to do it with a quick function in PHP but I'm not sure it is pos. to do a crossbrowser (NS4.x, NS6, IE, Op) version without it. If you dropped NS4.x and went for just an IFRAME version then the links with target would work fine (in IE5, NS6, Op5 anyway) but I wouldn't recommend this approach (due to the extremely bad way it degrades in NS4.x).
I'll keep thinking about this - there may be a way to fool NS.4.x somehow but I can't think of anything at the moment. I'll let you know if I have an idea (and anyone who has solved this one should feel free to pop the solution in here.

Ok, in the meantime how 'bout I write a set of pages with tables and have a sniffer load them only for Opera. Would that be possible? Maybe I should just wait until Ox gets it's shite together.
For the moment, I'm quite happy it works in IE5+ and N6 as the original intent was to produce a foward-compatible site.

Allewyn: There are probably various ways to do this - I'd go for serverside as it atrikes me as being the simplest route (for me) but use whatever means are available and you are comfortable with.

It has been my intention to get into php next so I'll probably email you when I'm ready to start.
For now, I'll close this topic because it has served its purpose.
