its my new project site to archive all of the fun/cool/dumb/horrible/whatever sites there are out there that webdesigners like myself spend hours a day wasting our lives on
Its not really even close to a review, but its beta enough that you can sign up and post urls if you have any or take a look and stuff of the ones that are on there... it loooooooooooooooooooooooks horrible tho ... but its entertaining enough

yak: Well as its not ready for a review yet I'm not sure what you want us to say. My only comment in a pre-review stage is that this has been done before e.g.:

so I'm curious to know what your site brings to the table that is different from those that have gone before?

Also the name is MuchSucko but it isn't designed to highlight sites that suck so I'm a little confused.

That said I'm sure I'll find myself nosing around wasting my time!!

muchosucko i think stands more for the actual internet itself rather then the sites that it is showing.. they are just byproducts of that which is muchosucko.. if you catch my drift?
the url you posted is just proof that the internet is such a massive place there are probably hundreds of other sites basically like muchosucko.com yet who has heard of them all? i've never seen portalofevil until just now (which it rocks for strange stuff) theres also fark and somethingawful etc etc.
i guess what it comes down to is not what your offering but the people who help out.. thats what makes this board nice.. the people on it.. there are 100's if not 1000's of photoshop and html help boards on the internet... the people posting is what makes it unique .. which HOPEFULLY givin a bit of time for looks and community will happen with muchosucko.com
the only reason i put it on here is to let whoever wanted to take a look do so.. the design is horrible right now, a lot of the stuff is broken.. but its workable enough to look at the sites and things like that.. the database and options are growing as we think about it ..
actually thats one thing i wouldnt mind... ideas for what kind of features you all would think would be interesting and fun to have in a site like this... if anything the look of the site is going to get simpler and simpler (not that its advanced at all rigth now) but very very low on images and everything because i don't want to have to worry about bandwidth if the site does end up getting popular.

yak: I was hoping for an answer like that as that is the big thing that makes a difference (not fancy layouts or bells and whistles) and if you have a good team and a strong flexible back end.

I like the idea of a simpler design - look at Google for example.

Features (probably ripped from what works elsewhere):

1. Meet the submitters (profile pages for your most prolific submitters) makes it more personal and you might get into the stuff they find so just follow them.

2. Ranking - get people to vote on the sites.

3. Hit logging - know the most visited sites.

4. User comments - give each link a page and allow people to post their ideas and feedback.

5. Message boards so people can discuss things.

Basically provide as much room for user input as possible and allow people to be able to serve up the sites in different ways (category, votes, visits, by submitter, etc.) so make sure your DB is flexible enough to allow this.

Oh and promote your ass off.

as far as whats on the plate right now with a few new things:
a rating system (so people will know if the link is ok for certain ages and such)
an article system, so we will have user submitted articles not just site links
as well i think that will give us a bit of diversity because it will be our own team of people submitting 'new' stuff... have maybe a photoshop of doom section where people can post all sorts of crazy doctored up photos.. ive seen that on a few sites but usually its only one or two guys.. not a bunch of people.. that would be kinda fun ..
a meet the submitters page is a good idea, weve been planning something KIND OF like that.. nothing as far as a profile and stuff... but that is a good idea for how it COULD be... we were just going to have it so you could view all of that submitters links.. but a profile would be a nice fun way to get to know these people
right now we have voting/ranking on the sites (no top 10 or anything yet because we really havent been 'open') right now its just collecting data waiting for us to put up the top visited sites... highest ranked sites.. lowest ranked sites.. least popular.. most comments and such ..
the hit logging is there right now... but its not very prominantly displayed (its not displayed at all on the main page) but if you go into the catagories its shown... thats gotta change of course
a msg board was discussed but i wasnt sure about how cool it would be to have one up with like 0 people viewing the page ... theres nothing worse then a msgboard with no posts... well almost nothing worse
im still in the process of finding some good fun people that want to actually help out and post stuff.. as it is i think 99% of the links have been posted by me ...
our registration system is pretty broke still (it works but it looks bad)
the layout is kinda mishmash to the extreme ... the idea of a google'ish layout is a really good idea... perhaps like google groups would be nice.. but have a few features on the main page as well... the more info about a link we can post the better.. people seem to love stats

yak: You seem to have a pretty good idea about features. One thought I had was that you might want to expand the picture archive to include all sorts of weird things - I have seen this kind of thing before but the good ideas tend to fade as there is usually only a few people posting them images. If you have active submitters then they are probably going to look at weird pics too (if the haven't been to rotten.com you probably don't want them anyway!!) and so rolling the two together could be a real winner.

Oh and make it nice and easy to search.

The key thing is interaction and letting people sort sites how they want (I think) and they'll come back for more.

A minimalist interface is tricky without a lot of work (its so much easier to keep adding things) so I'd prepare a number of tests pages and post them here - it will be a real balancing act between function and look.

And have a section for Shatner and another for Tentacle Porn - the punters love that kind of thing!!
