Hello, World!

I'm new. Nice to meet ya... I have a little problem and need some assistance.

This is the situation - I need information/help with DHTML and JavaScript and have a few books but am rather lazy when it comes to reading and cannot find any sites that provide indepth examples and tutorials for beginners.

Perhaps some of the friendly folks here @ Ozone Asylum would be willing to point me in the right direction towards quality sites that contain quality content?

All suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks.

Pick up those books. Trust me, that's how you'll learn. Tutorials will often mislead you.

But, if you want those sites... i dunno... www.ozones.com www.gurusnetwork.com www.slimeland.com www.youngpup.net (i recently discovered that one, it's a nice little site, very cool, i think, i'm not sure about the quality of the coding, it might be non-old-browser-compatible) www.dhtmlcentral.com (a child of www.bratta.com ), and don't forget the third one in that list. =)

Yeah, I know... I feel guilty sometimes.

Anyhoooo. I have a question regarding coding in JavaScript. I'm currently reading "JavaScript: The Definative Guide (O'Reily Publications) and I was wondering whether or not I have a clear understanding of the following...

example:

document.write.("Hello World!");

So, in context to the above line of code, I am assuming that 'IF' (document) = Object, THEN (write) = Method, & ("Hello World") = Property

I hope this makes sense.

*ugh* =P

Those groovey little windows on your site are exactly what I am looking for. (*nudge, nudge. wink, wink*)

WaDaFa?: Welcome. Try checking out the resources Slime posted - there is a freely available script at:
www.dhtmlcentral.com

I can see these little features getting overused in the future!!

Also for general DHTML resources try searching through the archive here - there is a lot of really good stuff.

You're right, in that statement you're calling the Write method of the Document object, but "hello world" isn't really a *property*, it's just an argument to the Write method.

Keep up with that book; it's an *excellent* book, that's how I know most of what I know about JavaScript.

As for the windows on my page? Wait 'till you get to chapter 17, "DHTML." (I think it's 17.) Don't skip chapter 15, about events, either. Then you'll have to learn how these things are done in *new* browsers, created after that book was written. Then you'll be ready. =)
