Preserved Topic: Working on my sig...Advices please (Page 1 of 1)

I am working on a personal sig...

What I have made so far is :



I still have to set the transparency and resize a bit the image, but it is not important.

Now I need an advice. I would have liked to do something else on it since it is a bit poor in this state. I would like to make some sort of "lake" under the letters and make the letter reflect into the water. Well I know I can add the water with bryce and maybe reflect the letter into the lake. However I find it a bit hard and there is surely another way. That's why I ask you my friends, is there another and easier way to perform that ?

Well, an easy way to do it would be to copy the image you've got now, flip it vertically, then move it below the name you have now. lower the opacity, run a filter like filter>distort>ocean ripple on it. I think that'd be an easy solution.

Well... I tried under Photoshop but the result wasn't really convincing. I also tried under Bryce, but the sun lightned all my pic so the pic was almost invisble and the reflect also : the only visible thing was the water !

I worked a bit on the pic with my "old" PSP and I did that :



Now I am trying to make the water effect with a java applet... You know the popular applet creating waves ripples under an image ? Maybe it will work...

Anyway : do you think this will be a good sig ? Any advices to make it better ?

Copy it.

Flip Vertically.

Run a distortion (wave filter would work)

Transform >> Perspective.


And it's just that friggin' simple...running Bryce or teying to create a whole lake, or moving applet instead of just an animated gif (gee, maybe Mahjqa could help you there) would be overkill to an extreme degree. It's a gif, it'll only have 256 colours no matter what the mix, so making it too complex is just....well too complex.

Okay. I start off with some fiddling for a technique to use, and end up with a sig. Damn me.

The main trick is the displace filter. Read this excellent tutorial by Steve to find out how to use it.

I am REALLY tempted to use it as my sig... But I think a sig should be personal and I want to do mine by myself. Thanks anyway your offer was very nice.

I read the tutorial and the topic... I understood how it works. I created a displacement image and a few displaced images. Then I created a gif file, but it didn't looked really realistic (water-like). After reviewing your example, I noticed that my displacement image was slighltly different from yours. Now I am recreating the displacement image...

I know that I still have to reduce the size but I will do it after (it weights 70 ko)

I added a morphing effect during 0,1 seconds between each image. I should be acceptable now :

Uhm, if *you* aren't going to use it, I'm snatching it for myself... hope you don't mind...

Oh, and another tip, you get less pixely results if you make it 2x the size it needs to be, and size it down afterwards. Kinda smoothes things up.

Mahjqa the product is yours so I do not see why I would mind if you use it...

I worked on it several hours, I ripped several hair of my head, and after several tries I must say that I have to surrender. I give up. Too damn difficult for me. I will search for another idea it's not a problem...
