I am working on a new website these days, and would like one or two of you to comment on it.

Looks real good Awilthil, but I would move the "HYPERMAP" over to the left. Its a little odd in the center, although still cool. Nice work.

My only concern is that of hosting; get off geocities. You have a slick design that is horribly mangled when yahoo! puts their little logo on the top corner... it's just sad that people aren't allowed to have free web hosting without those damned things. I almost prefer tripod or one of the other pop-up places, simply because I have a pop-up killer installed. But past that, I love the design...but I wonder; do you have to give descriptions in those slick boxes at the bottom? If so, why not all of them? I say scrap them and replace it with news and headlines, etc etc. Something dynamic that will change often would do the trick.

Geocities is only a temporary host for this site. I have the Hyperpark.com domain as well. I don't know what you mean when you ask if i should have text in all baxes in the bottom. There is! I am thinking of having some headlines somewere on the interface, just haven't found out where yet. I'll probably change the layout quite a lot, just need some ideas first. The important thing for me is not messing to much with the singel pixel bevels. I LOVE THOSE!
Thank you all for your comments.

What I meant by the text was this: Photoshop Tips, Gallery and Portfolio all have their own little boxes at the bottom as well as links in the actual interface. I question whether or not that's necessary--"news" "free stuff" and "hyperforum" don't have slick text boxes at the bottom...just seemd unbalanced.

(a big fan of balance here)

Awilthil:
I agree with twItch^. If I was you I would change those three boxes into something (like twItch^ said) moer dynamic. Perhaps add a news script to your site so you can update news daily (and easily) there. Those three sections are pretty self explanatory so theres not a real need for those intros to the site. Since none of your links are working yet I dont know where your planning on putting your content, but two of those boxes with a scrolling script would be awesome for it. Check out Kelly's website for an example of what I mean by the scrolling.

I was thinking... How about this.

Filling box 1 with headlines and a link to my news page.

Box 2: Tip of the day, like photoshop shortcuts(is that the word?) or other quick tips, followed by a link to the tutorial pages.

Finally in the third box, well.. something...

Could you post Kellys URL. Never been there..

Awilthil: See above for the link. Sounds like some good ideas. I didnt notice an about section or anything too personal. Perhaps you could use the third box for that.

You answered before I even asked!!!
I HAD been to that website. Yesterday in fact. Is it the rollover effect you are thinking of?

I have considered an image rollover, but I think it would make my index page very slow to download. That is why I have used a DHTML rollover instead. Interesting ideo though. I will however take into consideration what you said about dynamics, and will figure something out. Thanks for all your help so far.

Sorry Jestah, I now see what you mean. GREAT IDEA!! Maybe not tu user-friendly though. It is easier to use a standard scroll for most people. I did'nt see it first time. But i suppose there are ways to make the scrolling more obvious than Kelly did on her page.

Love her designs, by the way. Really smooth.

Deffinatly an awesome site Kelly has there Awilthil, yeah the scroll isnt always the most practical thing to use. I know mine doesnt work in Netscape, but since Im making a new layout as we speak Im not even going to bother to correct it. I havent had a chance to view Kelly's in NN but Im sure it works in both browsers. It can be done in both browsers, however your right the standard scroll is probably a lot easy and more effecient.

Hmm... As far as compatibility and usability of dhtml scroll bars, I say go for it--they're up in the 80%, I'd imagine, of people using browsers that are compliant. I'd be more concerned, if I were you (and if I were listening to most of the concerns voiced by folks here in the Asylum) about browser size--keep it below 800x600...I cannot remember if you did that anyway, but I thought I'd re-voice it before someone else did in a less-than-diplomatic way.

But I like your ideas of the box fills. You could fill up the third box with a site of the day, or a pic of the day, or week, or whatever. Those are fairly popular, and can get you friends quickly if you're directing people to others sites.

But, again, cheers on creating a slick design. You might want to pop your images through ImageReady to loosen the download time, but other than that, cheers.
