I was just reading Doc's post about his idea for a webcam page. I like it! I have had a webcam for a long time and have thought about broadcasting but I just have never done it. I think I'll have to look into it. This brings to mind a couple of questions....

#1. Can you point me to the necessary software. Is it free? Shareware?

#2. Do you notice any significant changes in the performance of your computers or net connections? I have DSL so I have a decent amount of bandwidth to burn.

Woo hoo! I am working on a site redesign and this will be a fun page to throw into the mix.

1 ) did you ever notice that the word "sixths" sounds just plain stupid? it's the only time in the english language that you're allowed to use a gluttoral ccchhhhh sound and still sound okay.

2 ) mostly, i think about feeding pears to my computer.

hope that answers your questions.

I'm using webcam32 on my page in progress. It has several great features I love.

A. It uploads the image to an FTP for you
B. You can add text or other images to the snapshot
C. You can include a thumbnail snapshot
D. Well, HELL, it basically lets you configure every possible aspect of it all!

Like I said, my page is a work in progress that I started last week. It includes a BLOG that I just got the software for through a college buddy, and since I have yet to register the software, I only get an hour at a time of it running before it shuts down, which means it's not up while I'm away, but eventually I'll register it, just because I love it so much.

HumanShield BLOG & Cam

Please ignore the pop up windows, they pop up after a while even if you close them, but I can't really do anything about it until I can afford something other than a free host.

What the fuck is a BLOG? Sounds like something from Super Mario Bros!

I'll have to check those cam deals out! How do they do as far as running without interrupting anything else on your computer? Are they streaming or do they just send a pic every so often?

webcam32 just sends an image after however many seconds you define. I have mine set to every 10 seconds. I have not had it interrupt anything else...

BLOG = short for weBLOG

So has it become second nature to time your nosepicks between camshots?

How long does it take to develop those habits?

Webcam32 is by far my favorite, and costs only $39.95, with lifetime free upgrades, I believe! (At least for those of us who bought it years ago! Hope it's still so.) The main thing i like about it, other than speed and lots of options, is that it'll do both streaming and FTP upload, that's cool. If you need to run two cams on the same machine, that's do-able, but not super intuitive, drop me a note if it comes up and I'll explain. Malin is a big fan of "ChillCam", which doesn't do streaming (yet! next release will.), but one thing it does that's really cool is allow filtering (builtin) and image overlays, very cool if you want to mask yourself behind a "find edges" or something, heh.

Doc, does webcam32 allow for that filtering capability??? That would be great.

Speaking of diggin' for gold. I hesitate to mention this but I was watching Doc's cams the other day and either Malin doesn't care or her timing was off!!! LOL!!!

I'm sure one of these evenings, I'm going to forget that dang thing is on and do something uncouth.
