Hey all! Well, at the start the whole "Mad Scientist" thing was just my way of saying thanks to those folks who really made my life happier, showing up here all the time, helping folks out when I didn't have to time, in general doing "good deeds", heh.

NOW we're getting bigger and bigger, what are we going to do about that? As we pushed past the 500 mark, we started to get a whole lot of new folks who didn't realize just what they were getting into, what kind of a community we've built here. Someone needs to remind them. That would have to be us, there's nobody else qualified.

What I'm going to ask of you is simple to state, but carries a lot of responsibility. I want to ask al of you to help me be "the concience" of this forum. You don't need to be the morality police, hell, you *shouldn't* be the morality police, we don't want that! What we want is for all of the folks here to play nice with each other, and to remember what it is we've got here, and toi help make it better. You don't need to jump into every thread and steer thing right, you don't need to fix every problem or stop every argument. You don't even need to jump into a thread at all if you don't want to or don't feel you need to. The thing is, there are *so* many new posts daily anymore, I can't even read all of them! I'd like your help keeping things under control.

I respect you folks. You guys are really what makes this forum go, what makes it a "community" rather than just a place to post garbage. We can keep it being what we want it to be, but only if we have enough folks to help with it. Here's the names of the folks I have right now in this category...

Mikey is a recent addition, (hi mikey!)He's here to remind us all that we are NOT the frigging morality police, we're just a bunch of folks who like this place and want it to continue existing. I'm going to write out a big long diatribe on just what this forum is supposed to be, what we should and should not be doing (the gerneral forum, not the MS), and how we should all try and behave.

(Possible new rules, for the sign-up page, wil also be posted in the OZONE forum periodically.)

- Profanity is not against the rules; being rude or mean is.

- Having opinions is good. Disagreeing with others is good too, keeps us on our toes. Being rude or mean while disagreeing with someone is not good, and will get you slapped.

- Posting serial numbers for commercial programs is not allowed. This is about the only thing that I would kick someone from this board for.

- People use warez. Some of *us* might use warez. Officially we frown upon warez, but accept that it's a fact of life in this biz. If you must discuss this kind of stuff, please be discreet.

- Porno is frowned upon here, mostly. Especially crude stuff with no artistic merit might get banned, but we're not prudes. If your art features scantily clad, beautiful women, post away, but don't be surprised if certain folks don't like it, and tell you so! Try and remember that many of our visitors here are legal minors, so don't post anything that might make their teachers or parents make them stop coming, cool?

Sorry 'bout takin' away your first post thingy doc, but I actually waited like 5 mins before I pressed the submit button. Oh well. If I haven't slipped this in enough times today...it's my birthday on Friday the 27th of October, my time, probably saturday or thursday for you, depending on where you live.

I also think that when you put them thare rules up, explain what you mean by discreet discussion of warez, that they shouldn't be posting URLs, and if they need to, to email the person, and so avoid getting you into troulble and depriving us of this forum.

Yep, that was just a first draft, I'll need to think about how to phrase that, heh. I was thinking of folks who are *not* on that list, but should be. Shiizzaam, maybe?

I was wondering what us Mad Scientists were supposed to do, besides clean up the old posts. What you've got right now is a very good outline Doc. I do like the idea that I'm not a policeman in the forum, rather a guide.

As far as Shiizzaam, I don't really know. She's been helpful but I don't know her well enough to say one way or another. Perhaps others can speak up for her?

BTW where has 2winspapa been these days? I used to look forward to his posts, I can't remember when I saw a post of his last.

Man... it really gets to me that this was necessary.. But you're right, the bicker and the madness (the bad kind) has got to stop...

I think everyone was waiting to see what his holiness the doc would say. As now the gavel has pounded, I expect things to start going back to normal, as normal as it ever got on this forum...

Actually I think la'dsasha would make a great addition to our mad little labratory we have going here. She seems to know her stuff and have quite different views then a lot of us here. Could be a very good addition indeed. Although, I think now that we have our own little secret society of MS complete with our own little private forum we should start some sort of hazing <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

only problem i see is, everyone that posts on a daily basis, is a MS, we need a few normal people, or it will be no fun

Heh heh. I gave sasha a password to post in here, I thought she could give us some interesting other viewpoints, hmm? Sasha, that password is one of the ones I use for a dummy variable in my code, when it seems I've already used "foobar" once too often. Several of the programmers I've worked with over the years would probably guess what it was on the first or second shot after a hint like that! Heh heh, left a crack in the door, wonder who else will sneak in here now? <g>

Incidentally, archiving posts does take a while. It ought to snap back to wherever you were before you archived the file. That would make life much easier. Also, if the checkboxes would go to where you had it the previous time so you didn't have to keep reseting them it would be good.

Just a couple of thoughts from a newbie.

I'll work on that. I may be able to do no more at this stage than screw with the redirect so it goes back to where you were, that shouldn't be as hard. Too many fixes are not easy, as I didn't write this thing, and the code is.. not like I would have coded! Still, it works, and you gotta respect anyone who writes a several thousand line combined program that still works! <g>

Well...actaully doc. To change the thingy to save the settings for archiving, just include them as a special category of stuff in the cookie that the site saves on the PC, and make it so that only the arhive dialogue can access them, to avoid them screwinbg anything up in the posting dialogue and stuff. You could always try that, although don't take my word as godpel for I do not know anything about CGI or cookies.
