While you guys were reviewing the Comp-Act site, i was working on my personal site. Its now in its Beta Version with the interface ready. I would have to put a hold on working on it for now to fix the Comp-act Site with most of the suggestions you guys gave me. But I would certainly like your review on this Beta site

OK, as you all know, I don't work *that* much in flash, but one thing I do remember on my last big flash project (now history, alas) was the handling of mouseover elements on text links. By default, you have to mouseover the skinny little bits of the letters, just putting your mouse betwen two letters won't work, you have to click *on* the letter itself. I found that you could modify this behaviour by adjusting the onClick parameter of your buttons, basically painting in a big blob of color for the active area. (Hopefully someone who knows flash better than I can explain this better?) I thought it was kind of cool other than that minor annoyance, though I'd want to adjust the transparent background to those two birds, they were transparent to white it seemed to me, and showed jaggies. (I also don't like chromeless windows, but that's just me. And maybe a million other people too. ;-)

ranjan: Ranjan as it is a personal site you can amuse yourself with whatever bits of technology you feel like and so whatever I say doesn't really matter too much:

1. I dislike pop ups and I dislike chromeless ones even more.

2. Those birds (esp. the duck) don't look good against that background and I would be wary about using such things unless they looked good and complimented your page.

3. The moving background is OK but on this machine and Op6 it looks a little jerky.

4. Your menu is a little slow and doesn't seem to work well in Opera.

Hmmm it looks like it has crashed IE6 so I'll stop there. I like the concept - clean open sky that kind of thing but the implementation could do with a little work. Try and have just a few animated touches and overall try and make things more sublte and get them working as a coherent unit so that they all contribute to the look (at the moment things like the moving sky, poorly aliased duck, etc. all 'jar' and take away from the effect). I like what you are trying for - keep trying different ideas and tweaking things and test on a number of browsers.

i agree. as i said its beta. i was playing with the concept, as such

1. the birds are borrowed free animated found at those 100 ameteur sites. i have to do them on my own to get the right effect.

2. my first goal is to stabilize the ie version before i try out what it even looks like in the other browsers.

3. like you said it crashes in ie 6, i want to know why and work on that before i get to any other browser.

4. as for pop ups are concerned since this is beta i just used it cuz it is simple. i intend to use an envelop frameset in the final version. i hate pop ups myself.

i already know whats wrong, what i expected from the experts was ways to rectify it

I wish I could shoot those ducks....

the whole file size is around 43 kb including images, i have a preloader thats loading images, but i guess the loop is causing it to be heavy on resources. i think i have to implement the concept in a smaller part of the window and have my content on the rest, that would take care of the jerky feel one gets when one hovers over a link and it would reduce animation size thereby being a little lighter on resources

thats a good idea to allow the user to shoot the ducks that would not only stop one loop and relieve resources but it will also be fun and game for the user

Ah? Ooh, I must be an idiot then, never looked into the code. I saw the DHTML, but had the worst time clicking those text links, thought I was running into a typical flash bug, sorry. I enjoyed the site overall, though I still would like to see better transparency to the background with those ducks. (I think being able to "shoot" them down with a mouseclick would be a wonderful easter egg though! Great idea.)
