Ok, first thoughts here:

1) whoa, bright colors on grey backgrounds! Weird....

2) Um...now what?

Conclusion: well, there's simply no direction to it. Nothing to draw the eye through the page.

No reason to keep going. Literally. I had absolutely no desire to click anything, as there was nothing that seemed to draw me into clicknig it.

I saw green and pink, and I was unsure why!

None of this is meant to be rude - gut reaction, and I hope it helps.

generally, i agree with DL-44. i think your main problem is that it lacks cohesiveness. lots of little blocks of text, and i was sure which was more important, and each page i went to seemed to be slightly different, but still not quite "getting it". i don't think you're far off, just needs some adjustments, spacing wise, to make it feel a little more solid. it's a shame really, because you have some really good content photo wise.

DL, you have mentioned this phrase "nothing to draw the eye" for navigation, and I'd like something to go by so I can learn what you mean by it. Are there any sites you can list that have the structure you would recommend? I am not sure I understand what you mean by this concept.

Thanks

It's a basic concept of any type of visual design.

In order to make sense, there needs to be an identifiable heirarchy. There needs to be a reason for you to look at the different parts of the space, and a method to differentiate the purpose of the various parts. It can take an endless number and variety of forms.

Color, typeface, line thickness, spatial arrangement, and so on are all part of this. Off hand I don't have any specific links to offer that are shining examples of this, but, look around. Look through the members list here, and check out the sites. It should become easy to tell the difference between a well structured site and a poorly structured one (being both well structured *and* attractive is another story ).

Okay, I understand what you mean now. I can recognise well structured sites, I just didn't know if there was some deep mysterious thing to which you were referring, that's all.

Thanks

Wow. This is purely a site-pimp thread. How annoying. Someone didn't read the faq.
