Everytime I try to render my work in 3D Max the output is a bit grainy. Why is that?

I've never used 3D Max before, but I'm willing to bet you've got an area light of some sort (a light source that comes from more than a single point, in order to create soft shadows), and it's factoring in a bit of randomness when it checks for shadows. If that's right, you'll have to increase the accuracy and decrease the randomness; it will render more slowly.

Again, I'm not sure exactly how to go about doing that.

Hmm maybe your right Slime. I tried another render with just one omni and the surface seemed more smooth.

How do I do dat?

I trying to make a Displacemap for use in photoshop and its very important that I have two direct red and green lights shining on the object... so one lightsource wont do.

Well, again, I haven't used the program, but it would be a separate option for each light source. Make sure they're point lights with no physical size.

hmmm...that pretty much categorizes all of the lights on max. The Omni's, the spots, they're all points. The directionals and the sunlight system have a physical size, but serve well to do a landscape scene, as envery light ray is parallel.
