Topic awaiting preservation: Basic Shopping cart? (Page 1 of 1)

Heya's, i was wondering how everyone goes or what everyone thinks about shopping cart type of things.

Firstly how does it normally work, when you fill your credit card details etc, where does it actually go? I've seen some dodgey credit card things around, is just sending credit card details to a company say via email etc an ok think to do - im not sure if they can actually do much with it, i guess if they have all of your details they can?

I guess the best probably most secure way to do it is maybe to get someone like paypal etc to handle the credit card part of things? But then does that effect your site in any way or are they a completely seperate entity just for dealing with the transfer of money.

I guess i dont know much about how this area works, off to do some google searching, but if anyone can enlighten me im interested in your opinions etc of the best ways to go about it, thanks all.

Well answered most of my questions anyhow hehe, always seem to post before i read i guess in hope someone with experience will provide a quick easy answer :P...

Even so, im still curious if anyone has a preference for ways of doing them, or think some way is better. I guess im mainly concerned with the transaction bit, the shopping cart should be pretty easy. I'm thinking of going with verisign for the transaction/taxes tho, anyone got any opinion on this?

Verisign has a bad rep in some circles; but perhaps their credit card services aren't subject to the same lack of customer care. Perhaps, however, they are. Do you really want to take chances?

not particularly, only reason i picked them was because a friend recently used them said they were O..K. nothing great i guess. Anything you would reccommend?

Thanks emp i did take a look at those, i was just i guess more interested in peoples opinions on it all and what they've found works best.
