Here's the larger, much cooler looking version! Still not quite as smooth as the original, though.

Insider, you've hardly been around long enough to say that =)

I've had a few sigs before. I never use them, though... I just prefer to leave my words sigless. =)

Thanks for your admiration anyway. And thanks to everyone who likes it =)

I made it with POV-Ray, of course. The disco-slime is a prism shape intersected with a narrow wedge and repeated around in a circle. I recorded the normals of these facets in an array, and for each of the three lights, looped through each facet and created a triangle mesh representing the area in space that would be illuminated by the reflection off that facet from that light source. Then I just filled each mesh with media, and placed bright meshes on the floor where the light would be hitting it.

And that's that =)

Very nice Slime...

...and...um...hi...

...I'll just take the chance to introduce myself,

I'm miscellaneous, and I live in Washington (Tacoma, to be exact),

I've been hanging around here for several years actually(since 1999), sucking up information, and trying to fit all of it into my head...

...some very talented artists here, and, yes, I have seen (two, i think) sigs that Slime has made...Is that right? Since '99 its been 2 right?

Anyways, nice job there Slime!

This version of the forum started in 2000, but the casual forums one started at the end of 1999. So, you know, depending....

But yeah, I can only visually recall 1 sig of Slime's, but I know there has been more than one.

Beautiful work Slime. Truly wonderful

[Wow, that's a lot more than I remembered. It exceeds the maximum UBB limit of images. I'll make an HTML page for them and post it in a minute.]

[edit: here: http://www.slimeland.com/misc/sigs.html ]

But it's true that this has been the first in a long while.

I found a link to some forums from ozones.com, or was it ozoniclabs.com back in '9i9, anyways, didn't pay much attention to them untill mid 2000, when I started lurking, guess I never had a reason to join...Guess I still don't, but this is a great place, and I'm sorry to see some of the older members leave (...vp, the guy that talked in 3rd person (forgot name, but hilarious))...

Slime - interestingly enough, the one I remember is not shown on that page =)

It was a small button size image (88x31 kinda thing) that started square, then kinda swirled up...or dripped/gooped up or something. Ring a bell?

DL: I don't remember that. Are you sure it wasn't someone else's? There were a couple other "slime" screen names here at points. I'm pretty sure I've never actually done anything with any dripping or goopiness.

Miscellaneous: Welcome. You seem to have been lurking for *quite* a while, to remember threep. (actually, you say since 1999, but the asylum began in march 2000 (when i signed up) so you're off by a bit.) Actually, threep was really someone else, I forget who though (rietsma?), but it doesn't really matter anymore. Nice to meet you =)

Slime - yup definately you.

It was white(ish) with the slime green/blue border, started button shaped, swirled around, and then the slime dripped like a water drop back to it's original shape/position.

I *think* it may have been your first, as i recall Doc giving us hell for not having graphical sigs like you and he did.

Oh! Yeah! I remember that now! That was from the forum I visted *before* this one. It had a dark green background. www.hero6.com . I wonder if they're still working on that project?

However, I have no idea where it is at this point... I think it might have been on one of my angelfire pages which have since been deleted, and probably also on our original computer at home, whose hard drive died a year or two ago. So it may not exist anymore.

very good work!

you say meshes? what did you use them for? i mean, all i see is simple CSG objects.
and what is a wedge?

its media, ey? how long did it render?

my spotlight sig here:

The meshes are for the invisible shapes "holding" the light beams. They were filled with media. I might have been able to use prisms with conical_sweeps, but this was probably faster, and a lot easier to create.

A wedge is an intersection of two planes:

intersection {
plane {x,0}
plane {-x,0 rotate something*y}
}

It took a few hours to render all 14 frames. I trimmed the edges off a little bit, too. All the povray rendering was done with white colored media with transparency output on. Then I used a gradient map in Photoshop to get the color out of it.
