I know I need more practise. I'm trying to learn how to paint in photoshop and decided to try with a sqirl first, lol! I couldn't get the fur to look the way it's supposed to, so I was hoping it would look good as a sig. (maybe I should continue practising on the big version..)
Is it too big?

Actually, it's not bad...maybe a little smaller...with your name on it. Definitely original...

Of course, you could animate it...hehe...

As a small painting I think it's great work!
Esp for someone who is learning to paint in PS.

As a sig...

Well, as it has been said before, a sig should generally say something about the owner and more often than not incorporate your handle in the sig.

So what does this say about you?
You are small brown, furry, un-named and you love nuts... right?

Get my drift, try to make a sig that's you, and you alone.

Yep make is smaller and make the branch thicker, or that squirrel will fall off! Other than that I see no major issues with it.

Did you use a photo as a reference or is it straight from your head?

It's a really nice painting, especially since tyou said it's one of your first tries. One thing that stands out is the difference in color between the tail and the rest of the 'squrl'.

It's really nicely done. (and, Webshaman, I don't think you should comment about imagesize ) Otherwise, have nothing more to add than what has already been said.

DmS, I'm a HUGE animal lover. That's why I always draw animals. I tried to paint an owl before this one, but it was too hard to do the feathers. I think I have to practise some more before I try to paint birds. I always used to draw horses when I was little. I hope I'll get good enough to paint horses....in a couple of months.

kaboi, I did use a photo as a reference, but the branch thing was something I added. It's supposed to be lying on the ground, with only one nut left.

mahjqa, the sqirl (am I spelling it right?? sqirl? squirl?) in the photo I used was grey with a brown/red tail. I tried to make it brown, but maybe I should make it even more brown?

As painting, it's looking pretty good. Could use some sharper highlights to help bring some focus to it, but all in all it's rather nice.

As a sig, well - no problem that it's a squirrel, and I personally have no problem that it doesn't have your name on it (your name is listed to the left of each post after all...so I don't think we'll have any trouble figuring out who it belongs to ).

It's just a bit too big for a sig.

If you could manage to cut the size down by say..a third or so... then throw in some brighter highlights, deeper shadows to help account for the loss of detail from resizing (and to help it stand out from the background a little) it'd be a great sig.

Fenja: That is a really cute sig! I like like it! I use wolves in my sigs quite often. hehehe. Nice work. I would suggest to cut the physical size of it down just a teeny bit, but then again my sigs turn out to be a bit large too. Welcome to the Asylum!

Yep - perfect now Fenja. Didn't seem to lose much at all on the resize either - always nice when it works out that way.

I'd call it a keeper =) Some might say you should add your name, but I don't think it's necessary (my name isn't on mine!).

Incidentally DL, you know I think of you everytime I see certain eye ointments in pharmacies? I can't remember the manufacturer but they use a little picture of an eye on the front of their packaging that looks almost exactly like your eye sig. Theirs is flipped horizontally though.

I'll take my cam and snap a pic of the offending package this weekend.

Fenja: Actually what I use is a combination of both Photoshop and a program called Poser. Poser is a 3D program that you can use to create people and animals. I am one that likes to play with that program.

usually when i see the "My first sig" title i groan and go away... but this is really fine work! I do hope you stay around these halls. Welcome!

as for a name... If i were you i would stick one one the bottom... just under the branch... blend it in nice. I would do it because you are pretty new here, and your name would be easy to spot.

but then again, I dont have a name on my sig either.
