Topic awaiting preservation: I regersered as a member and my sig was changed (Page 1 of 1)

I regerstered as a member yet my sig was altered. It said I'M dumb or something. What gives? I become a member yet still get messed with...... Please explain.....

Some of the inmates who offer sig hosting will only allow you to link to sigs from the Asylum (or selected Ozone Family sites) if you are using these services and trying to use your sig in another forum then you will get a graphic saying that you are using the service and breaking the ToS (or 'You are stupid' - whatever the host feels is appropriate).

So if you are doing this then use another service that does allow you to link to sigs on other forums.

I have also swapped the two sig hosting services around as I suspect people are coming in not bothering to actually read anything on the page which explains the differences between what is being made available and they are just clicking on the first link that they see. Now the Asylum only section follows the unrestricted services. If you are only looking for sig hosting for here then could regular inmates think about using the Asylum-only service to take the strain off twitch^ and any others we have in there (they come and go I'm afraid).

If we can actually use the services responsibly then there is a good chance that they will continue to exist so thank you for your cooperation

just a thought, but it seems more and more apparent that people are registering here, in the misguided belief that they can get a free sig hosting service and not really become usefull/active members, so how about making the upload pages password protected and emailing out passwords to genuime members?

or do we develop some criteria for genuine members and other people? If we set a post count then people would just spam the forum to get their post count up which would cause more trouble than it fixes.

All we ask is that people read what they are signing up to (should we slip in a section saying 'By agreeing to this you give us all your money and worldly goods and allow us to sell all your relatives nto slavery).

Hopefully this is a temporary thing as we will work on a system to work as a front to people's hosting services and we should be able to avoid the most obvious problems occuring (hopefully).

Personally, I would even go so far as to say fuck it, let people get their own hosting.

The only way round i can see this, is making it a protected page, now if you wanted to upload something you could contact say for example a mad sci, they couldissue a general password to tat user which could be changed weekly.. The Mad Sci's will know if the person requesting hosting is genuine or not. This last case was clearly one of the scenarios i am commenting on. The great job that the sig hosts are doing isbeing ruined by these dummy's. Even though it is only a small amount of bandwidth used, its still going to add up, plus they have to go through their sig directory's to check up on which are legit etc.

Hmm... my first reaction is to say "chill," but I have to admit that I think Scorpion may have a point. Granted, we've been having lots of problems lately with people drifting in because of sig hosting, and our patience may be running low, but Scorpion doesn't know this. Look at it from his point of view: he's looking for a place to host his sig, finds Michael's service through Google (most likely), and breezes through the documentation without really stopping to read it. Granted, it took him a while to catch on to something that should have been pretty obvious, but not once was he aggressive or insulting to anyone here. Although careful reading could have prevented the whole mess in the first place, he did express a desire to do things the right way and rectify any wrongs.

Maybe I'm just being over-sensitive, but when I first read through this thread I felt a twinge at some of the comments here. It is true that some of them may not even have been directed at Scorpion, but at the sig host-searching population in general. Again, though, Scorpion had no way of knowing this.

That being said, I probably wouldn't have chosen to respond the way Scorpion did, but oh well.

!Scorpion!: Well its actually not my "house" (or forum) but this does seem unfortunate. We are genuinely concerned that the documentation isn't clear enough but it is all stated explicitly so inmates are perfectly within their rights to expect people to actually read what they are signing up to. DL also has a point - people are providing their web space to people free of charge so that people can show play with sigs when their hosting doesn't allow. There are different levels of service so pick the one that suits you better and if there is nothing that suits your needs then you might actually have to get your own hosting service.

There has been discussion of actually removing the Asylum stuff from the FAQ and only handing it out when people ask but that does seem to defeat the point of an FAQ but I also don't want the sig hosting FAQs success to spoil the service available. Hopefully the distributed sig hosting service that TP is working on will improve the situation for people and allow us more control over directing people to the most suitable option for them and so we can avoid this kind of misunderstanding in the future (or reduce the frequency of incidents like this).

Anyway its house cleaning time. Could the "rift raft" please report to Suho1004 for electroshock therapy (and you know who you are).

Then you proceed to say that the text should be CHANGED to state that it will only work at the Asylum.
