No idea what it does. Mahj has spent too much time looking at clocks and watches.

42138 bytes, 12 frames, 64 colors... second background. I may put my name in there somewhere, or maybe not. It's a bit high vertically (96 pixels) but I don't think I'll change that. All hail polar coordinates.

Comments, questions, suggestions, all are welcome.

That is very impressive and totally awesome... the gear stop for the... 'tick' motion bothers me some... I think it's because there is no pause frame between ticks. The gears stop but the ticker doesn't. Does that make sense? The constant back and forth motion... in my mind should be a slide/stop, slide/stop motion that coincides with the gear's spin/stop motion. I might just be being nitpicky. Very cool though.

I'll have to agree with GD... the motion in the center just seems too smooth...
should be a minor adjustment though...

I think I have an idea on how you processed this sig Mahjqa, with the polar coordinates and the rotation. Though, about the brown part in the middle, the light work amazes me, can't figure how you did it... Very very good job, as usual. I like it much Personally, I have nothing to reproach to it, the smooth animation in the center doesn't shock me. Perhaps you would like to add your name on one of the rotating wheel ?

Polar Coords? Nah. Odd numbers + 90 degrees is my guess.

Last things first... Warjournal, you´re partly right. I did make a sig with that method some time ago... Notice that I borrowed some things from there, especially the big wheel with the inner teeth around it all.

How this one works is described on this :FAQ: page.
(for the people who are working on a high resolution, the text says "There is no such thing as normal", taken from the full quote "there is no such thing as normal, there's only society's opinion on what it's supposed to be."

Uhm, War... are you talking about the *.PSD over here? Is there any chance you still have that PSD somewhere?

However, to make gears of any kind, polar coordinates is in PS (IMHO) the best tool you can use. The Guru's Network tutorial covers this in much more detail, but what it does is this; it takes the (square) area of the canvas, and wraps it around the center of the canvas. If you don't get it, take a look at this animation:

I've also added an example of a gear in there; if people need a more in-depth explanation (preferably after having read the Guru's tutorial) just ask.

Okay... I could've seen it coming that the animation wouldn't be clear to some... there are two things going on. 1: the big outer (metal) gear is continuously forced anti-clockwise. In turn, this makes the inner metal and copper gears move anticlockwise. 2: the metal gear on the bottom right moves continuously clockwise. (if you look closely, you can even see the spring) That gear makes the middle metal gear rotate anticlockwise. This gear is joined to the three-sided golden cog, almost exactly in the middle. Above and below this cog you can see two metal circles. they are joined together, and are pushed up and down by the three-sided cog. Joined to these circles are two black-metal 'stoppers' (lacking a better term) which stop keep the gears described in #1 every 6 frames.

Phew. That better?

Ahhhhh.... yes it is. I was... well... missing the second stop at the top. Narrow focus. Very cool. I was having issues integrating the three sided cog into the mix. My layers were all screwed up.

Update, the old one is THIS ONE:

The new one is currently in use.

Things I've learned:
1: things look more like metal when they are shiny. So: use much white, and color dodge is your friend.
2: metal looks more like metal when it has a slight blue hue.

Knowledge +2.

Holy shit, Mahjqa! That's the first mini-tut I wrote. Talk about feeling old all of sudden.

I don't think I still have that PSD. However, I remember exactly how it goes. I'll see about tossing up a graphic later explaining what I did. Might even embarress myself on a few counts, and toss in a few other thoughts as well.
