From personal experience I've found that Yahoo!'s customer service is appaling. They expanded rapidly sucking up all sorts of services but if a technical problem happened during the switch or after it was impossible to get anyone to reply to an email (I gave up after about 6 months). So I wouldn't hold your breath on this front even if you threaten all sorts of reprecussions - I just don't believe there is anyone manning the phones. It would be an interesting wake up call to do something about this on the copyright front but waving around DMCA is pointless if its not followed up. I would imagine we could track down a new media lawyer who would love he chance to take a shot at Yahoo! - in some ways they piss me off more than BSS - he was a misfit who doesn't have to answer to anyone while Yahoo! are gigantic (bloated?) company who should be more responsible. We can do our best to police this area but without the backing of big firms then we are screwed. Anyone fancy taking this further?

With a recent deal Google have leapt past Inkotomi in the search engine stakes and are now breathing down Yahoo!'s neck. I think they've really lost their focus and could be heading for a big fall.

Here endeth the rant

Ok, I've been examining a couple of pics (rips) on BSSs signature page...check the ferrari out. Not the actual model, but the reflection...see what I mean? Where one would expect Delta V to be mirrored, it's something else...could it be a clue to the original designer? Unfortunately, it is very hard to read...could someone help out here? I'm at work, so don't have PS here. I'm sure with a bit of 'work' in PS maybe the name could be 'tickled' out...

No, not michael schumacher!! I meant the reflection on the floor, not the auto. Where you would expect the Delta V to be mirrored...but it is something different...Delta V is two groups...but the reflection is three...can you see what I mean? BTW - good work on 'sharpening' the schumacher pic that was clearly 'pasted on' afterwards...and you can tell that the Delta V was put on there...and the original whatever was there before 'cut-out' (or stempled over).

You know, it has occured to me, and I may be completely wrong so don't castrate me or anything, but when this all started I did an ARIN whois on his IP addy and it showed Exodus Communications. Seemed to me like the servers were leased or something maybe. Aw heck, I'll do it again..

Yahoo! Inc. (NETBLK-ECI-4-YAHOO1) ECI-4-YAHOO1 209.1.224.0 - 209.1.224.255

Anyway, a google search for Exodus Communications turns up http://exodus.net , a big ass service provider in California. So, if you navigate through their site to the policies you'll find this page which says this:

quote:
9. Copyright Policy

At our discretion and in appropriate circumstances, Exodus may terminate or suspend service to customers who repeatedly infringe upon the copyright, or other intellectual property rights, of others.

So, my question to you would be, could we be e-mailing the wrong people? Or am I just confused as usual?

Maybe the actual copyright holder of the stolen artwork needs to be the one contacting these companies? Could be they won't take 3rd parties seriously. Maybe they need to hear, "I own the copyright to this image and if YOU don't take it down..." Maybe this has been discussed already and I missed it. Quit looking at my balls!

Yup. Skaarjj has a good point. That's why I decided to go ahead with ripperreport. One shouldn't think in terms of 'punishment' or vengence, but rather from the viewpoint of informing. I find nothing wrong with informing as long as
a) it's keep strickly factual
b) it's keep impartial (i.e. not personal...don't want vendettas, etc).

Providing information like that would be a great help IMHO. Had I of had something like that during the BSS situation, it would have made the whole thing a lot easier...

As for legal matters...ya, I think cyoung has a point there. Guess I'll just let the lawsuit thingie fall.
