I almost missed this topic and I think this would be something cool to do. I think the origional reason I missed the thread is that it meant nothing to me, geesh its like naming a movie THX-1138. |

Nevex- go to http://www1.distributed.net/download/clients.html then scroll down and find your specific platform and click either http or ftp to the right of it, depending on which way you prefer to transfer the file. Install the program, configure it to taste then follow Docs instructions in the second quote of the initial post of this thread. Welcome aboard! |

Nevex.. the first post in this thread: quote: Once you've run the program and completed some work packets you need to give it a day, then go to your stats page. From there you can click a button to have them e-mail your password to you. Once you have the password you can join the team with the link above. |

The original thread (formerly known as "the new Mac") is here: http://www.OzoneAsylum.com/Forum1/HTML/002271.html It would be a thing of beauty to see all those machines crunching for the Asylum! You'll find the answers to all your questions at the distributed.net website. |

Nevex, go to this page and enter the e-mail address you used to configure the client in the box at the top center of the page. This will bring you to your stats page. At the bottom of your stats page is a button that says "e-mail me my password" click that and your password will be sent to the e-mail you specified in the set-up. Once you have your password hit this link to join the team. The FAQ's are here if you have trouble. |

Hey! I'm still doing this! Yesterday was a rough one, I've had DNS problems like crazy, so only 4,125 blocks got through from my machines, but tomorrow! That oughtta be good, I expect over 5,000. I don't know why more people don't get into this, at least for a day or 3. It truly rocks to find out just how many CPU cycles you're worth, many of us have more computer power at our fingertips than we realize! When I started doing this back in 1998, on a good day I could do perhaps 500 blocks, my! How I've grown. |

I'm doing it too, and I've got two computers at home running it. I'd put it on my laptop here at work, but the Adobe firewall has futzed me again. TEAM REJECTED. Anyway, I added myself to the group, and one of my computers is currently offline, but the better one is still running strong and fast and hopefully will help a bit. |

Nevex, their stats page is futzed up. I do a search for my email, and it doesn't show up... but sometimes it does. I got it once by luck yesterday and got my password emailed to me... it doesn't show up now, but it's there if I follow the link in the email... I think I'll visit other peoples' stats and click the "email me my password" button repetitively. |

Nevex that's strange. I had no trouble after a day. The only thing I can think of would be to make sure you entered the e-mail address correctly (no typos) in the configuration and that you have in fact "flushed" some work to them. Look under Commands>Configure>General Client options to check if the address is correct. Choose Commands>Update to send and recieve work. Sorry bout the slow reply.. kinda busy sometimes. |

I think I might have figured out your problem, Nevex... I just solved it for myself anyway. Go to the main page of the site... you click on statistics... now, what I was doing wrong was I was looking under the OGR-24 stats... what I should have been doing was looking under the OGR-25 stats. Try that if you haven't. |

Except we are working solely on RC5-64.. so as not to spread ourselves too thin. Go to Commands>Buffer and buffer update options, then you want choice 8 to look like so- 8) Load-work precedence ==> DES=0,CSC=0,OGR=0,RC5 |

Whoa! Hold it right there, I'll stop you. We could work on one of the other competitions, and devote only 25% of our CPU time to RC5, but what points will that earn us? Who wants to be well rounded? We want the BIG STATS, heh. Really, I'm not doing this thing out of any altruistic desire to build a better world through key decryption, I want to se just how fast my machines are, and compete and compare with my friends, SO! May as well compete solely in RC5, as I do. =) |

Well, I changed it to RC5 before you guys even told me about that... because I noticed my name was on the team only on the OGR stats, and everyone else was on the RC5 stats... but I was trying to help Nevex find his stats so he can join. |

I'll hold off on specific instruction in the future. It appears there are some significant differences between various platforms. My replies were based on the PPC version that I am running. As far as the distributed 3D renderer.. that's way over my head but Doc if you build it, I'll run it. |

I don't know exactly if it's what you're talking about, but 3DStudio allows for network rendering... I always thought it was so you could network a bunch of machines and distribute the rendering process. I am probably wrong though, as is often pointed out to me. |
