Satire is always under fire from someone, but it's usually given a lot of legal protections, too. People can complain all they want, but even the most biased of political cartoons, much less the Simpsons, is legally bulletproof.

You know what's funny?

If they don't like the Simpson's, why do they still air it over there?

ya know....i think i've about had it with "political correctness" and the protecting of the feelings of various peoples (whoever they may be). it's exhausting!!
if yer goin to watch the show, don't turn around and complain about it offending you. it's no different to me than the fat people suing mcdonalds.
i dunno...i know that in the last 2 weeks i've become even more sick of the human race as a whole.

was watchin the new just this morning and here in oz they are banning santa from some pre-schools because it may offend some ethnic minorities! for fuck's sake!!!! even santa isn't safe!

ack! it's taken me nearly 10 minutes to get just this cuz i could really really go on ranting and ranting about this crap and i really don't wanna cuz it really pisses me off.

There's this thing going on in Australia that makes me want to take political correctness and shove it up someone's arse. They're trying to ban Santa Claus from kindergartens in the fear that he is offensive to minority groups. What a load of bullshit! They can send their kids somewhere else!

Ram: That's not entirley the right thing to say you know. 'They can go somewhere else' Well, they have the right to attend the same kindergartens as everyone else. Making them go somewhere else becuase that kinder sports Santa Claus is the way segregation starts. if it was to happen, thne a vote would have to be taken. Majority rules. It's the law, no one can argue with that.

i agree with you somewhat skaarjj, but , if santa (or whatever it is) offends you, then don't attend that particular place. ya know what i'm sayin?? especially if you're an immigrant. i can't go to china and tell them to quit makin dog stew. well, i could, but they'd tell me to get stuffed!
if it's so bad that they can't handle santa clause...well, i'm sorry, but planes fly both ways! see ya!

the problem is that their point of view is as bulletproofed as the aforementioned simpsons are.

the only way you can win is if you marry one of them, father a few minority monsters, turning "them" against themselves, bringing all that big pile of esoteric crap down.

don't worry about it though, others are doing it.

I can't wait for the future, when we simply breed races out of ourselves and become one big grey number of people. Then no one would get offended by jokes and good humor, and there would be less bitching in the world.

yea, njuice, but when we all look the same, it will then become very important how big your left index finger is. People with small left index fingers will come from the inferior race and will be forced to attend the lower-class schools and to live in poor neighborhoods.

I can't believe someone takes the Simpsons so ethno-personally... It's not like Matt Groening is prejudiced - he takes pot-shots at everyone, regardless of race or creed... I mean, this show hasn't existed for 13 years for nothing!

And Gilbert's right - if it's not one thing, it's another. People who aren't happy, don't want anyone to be happy. Unfortunately, there's a large majority of unhappy people in the world...

The problem isn't just political correctness, it's a double standard...the same double standard that most minority groups would have eradicated.

It's funny to make jokes at the expense of white people.

It's a hate crime to make fun of a minority group.

People need to simply realize that *everyone* is an open target for jokes, and for good reason - every ethnic group large enough to have stereotypes has them for reasons - usually those reasons being that there are a lot of truth to many of them! And they're funny.

Yeah, I'm with DL on that one.

I've heard white jokes, black jokes, mexican jokes, polish jokes, etc. I tell them to all my friends, and they are part of the aforementioned groups. Everyone finds them funny.

How can you appreciate your similarities if you can't laugh at your differences?

And ^ that's why shows like The Simpsons and South Park are so great - they offend everyone! No picking and choosing... I'm constantly amazed at Trey Parker and Co. and the things they come up with to scoff at. Groening has just been at it a little longer and has managed to make his vehicle into something the majority of society will accept as humor. South Park is a little harsher in that respect. (a little - heh heh...)
