I bet ONION would get closed down if they published that 3 years later...

^-- What? You're kidding me, right? Did you see some of the stuff they printed after 9/11? And who exactly would close them down? It's not like they're a print newspaper with a corporate hierarchy.

The Onion mercilessly mocks everything that society holds dear. Not only is it very funny, but there have been many times when reading an Onion article has made seriously think about a particular issue. That's the mark of good satire, unlike a lot of the crap that gets foisted on us by so-called satire sites.

The Onion brings up mixed reactions. Some people simply can't find the humor. For some, it's because they don't understand irony... for some, it's because they find the irony too heavy-handed.

Well, what can I say. Different people have different tastes. I happen to find the Onion funny. Mostly, though, I was responding asptamer's remark that the Onion would have been "closed down" if it had run a similar piece after 9/11...

Then again, I guess it depends on your definition of "funny." I'm not sure if I've ever actually laughed out loud at an Onion piece. Smiled a lot, certainly.

My post was ambiguous, perhaps? I like the Onion myself. It's on and off, of course, but the classics are really classic.

No, I was talking to DL and Michael (I think). Apparently my sense of humor doesn't meet their standards...

actually I meant not 9/11 but the war with iraq - when unfortunately in the eyes of many brainwashed citizens, anything muslim or just plain anti-american starts to become "terrorist."

All kinds of craziness... Check out the archives on the site, I'm certain most of the articles are still there. I remember reading one where the hijackers woke up in Hell and were surprised! I think I did laugh out loud at that one...

bodhi: Yup, I remember that one too. Some very graphic images in there, if I recall.

asptamer: Yeah, they had a few weeks of "Holy S**t! Attack on America!"-type special reports after the attack. If you can find it in the archive, the one that bodhi mentioned is especially, um, nice.



DL: Quiet, you figment of my imagination.

I was in the university bookstore about mid-fall semester just poking around on my lunch hour, and came across a book that was written completely about 9/11 conspiracy, and documentation to show that the US gov't knew that such an attack was a distinct possibility. I'll have to go check out the title and author again. I think there are some folks around here who might find it interesting to read. (or scoff at for that matter!)
And it appeared to be quite serious! It's not suprising to me that the conspiracy theorists are having such a field day with these events. When all the smoke clears, it'll be interesting to hear what actually comes out!
