I have to do a persuasive speech. My prob. is finding a topic and a unique topic at that. Nothing like abortion or abstinence or why u shouldn't use drugs. You have any suggestions on what should I do the speech about?

For a presentation that I just did in class, I had to have 'classroom participation' and had them do a short debate over whether or not someone is oblighed (on any grounds) to resist (a power) if that power makes them compromise their morals. It was for a presentation on Civil Disobedience, and theres tons of stuff in there about it. It spawned a lot of discussion too. Anyways...

I did one on napster once. back in the day for my speech class.

You could always talk about how t-rex's could have been herbivores.

Or why paper newspapers should be replaced with email?

Or um? why nuclear research for power should be researched more and developed.

Or why you don?t think the class should have to come up with persuasive speeches. . .

hmmm, how about trying to talk them into letting you sleep in in the morning... I could really go for some sleep... talk about the positive side effect of plenty of sleep, negative effects of being tired, negative effectes of caffiene and other such drugs... and so on...

Why a bishop should or should not be a homosexual? *cough*what? that just came on the radio... just turn on the teevee or radio... talk about why certian pop stars are good or bad influences... or why water is unhealth for the body.

Why not argue for why we must continue to expand our footstep into space? That's a good topic and has quite a good controversy in the scientific community raging between those who favor manned exploration versus unmanned or some combination thereof.

Seems like only yesterday we were helping Yannah with her persuasive speech... That turned into quite a debate thread...

Be interesting to find out what we'll be talking about with this one!

Yes Bugs! That's a great topic!

We really should dust off the ol' Formal Debate again...the first one was really good, as I recall...

Fond memories of the formal debate, indeed

I remember that other persuasive speech thread. I still haven't pulled that answer out of the oven I had baking for mobrul about how Christians pick and choose the OT law. Heh heh heh... I actually have notes and everything written up but have been too distracted to post.

^^ Bugs - I'm curious about the picking and choosing of laws and scripture as well. I just finished some very interesting reading about the questionable origins of the Roman Catholic church...

Get your notes in order and let's hear it! Anything that's taken 4 months (yep, 4 months...) to research has to be worth hearing... (er... reading...)

I'm considering whether or not to start a thread on what I've just read. It can be volatile subject matter, but I'd be willing to have an open minded, intelligent debate with someone about the topics raised. Has anyone else read The DaVinci Code yet?
