hi there!

it's been ages since my last visit on this forum, but it seems this is the right place to ask for advice

the problem: i have a 1280*960 render of a 3d scene that i want to print on a a3,a2 or maybe even on a1 sheet
Photoshop says the image is at 72 pixels per inch
how can i (or can i) make it have a higher dpi?

noob question: is dpi the same as pixels per inch?

if i raise the ppi value from photoshop the image size in pixels*pixels is also raised but the document size inches*inches stays the same... i have a funny feeling i'm doing something wrong here it seems to me that even if i raise the ppi value the image quality stays the same, so id doesn't really matter if i print the original file or if i raise the ppi from photoshop and print that modified file...

so could anyone here please give me some advice on how to solve this thing?
i for one came to the conclusion (tell me if i'm wrong) that in order to print this file on a a3,a2 or a1 i should do another render of the 3d scene at a higher dpi...

i know these are a lot of stupid questions but it's the first time i faced problems like these and i'm quite confused!

thanx, hope to get some help from someone around here!

cheers!

don't worry, you're on the right track. ppi in photoshop is really just used for printing out of photoshop, your pixel dimensions are all that really matters. for example, if you want to print out an image at 300dpi (which is the same as ppi in photoshop) that was 3" x 3" you'd need an image that was 900 pixels by 900 pixels. if photoshop reads that as being a lot bigger image (in inches) at 72 dpi that's fine, just adjust it to 300dpi and make sure your overall dimensions don't change and you're good to go. hope that helps.

thanx 4 the effort

change the resolution to 300 ppi and make sure your dimensions stay at 1280x1110 pixels and you'll be fine.
