We've decided (well Warjournal didn't but he is understandably tied up) to stick our efforts here, for two reasons, its the easiest way for us all to work on the one thing, and the whole forum can contribute ideas of any kind.
To start the ball rolling, heres a wee two minute sketch I did:

Its supposed to have "JERKS" written on its tip, but that would be very hard to draw properly. Nothin' special just a doodle, but its all we got so far more to come soon I hope. Im gonna try dedicate some time to this project.

I Have to emphasize that other Asylumites comments and contributions will be appreciated.

Appreciate the comments of course, but what were really looking for (well I am for one, I cant speak for others), is ideas, and concepts and hardcore critique, I realise there isnt much to show so far, But this isnt a finished work show it off piece. This is a community piece, I dont like the idea of us three submitting an idea/painting/concept fourth "in the name of" or to represent the ozone asylum, it doesnt feel right. we need more input .. please

again, Im sure many of you have read this with the intent of posting and seeing there is nothing to review, but please remember ...this is not a review and this is ours as much as it is yours and it would be great if people suggest new things and ideas (objects even) that should be added.

thanks.

K. first.... i miss the chains that hold the "bomb" up..... as well as the fins, it needs dimensions.. and a floor. to say the least... its also missing shadows, which i imagine would be added last.... maybe have some more computers, along the wall, a cart with tools on it near the man, have the man not be a silhouette, that doesn't make sense when things farther away than him have definition and he doesn't.... maybe add an assistant... designs, textures.... lights on the ceiling.... places like that generally have the rectangular flourescent lights... that should get you started if you're short on ideas

Sanzen already proposed very good suggestions... Just adding mine : you could maybe cut a bit the 'rope' holding the light, and move the light more near the roof.. And then you could make the light less 'dispersive', having a cone of light less powerful and less large, creating shadows in the corners, making the whole scene looking more like an workshop... But again it's a simple suggestion, I don't think I am enough an artist to suggest you anything

LOL - don't listen to him ^^^^^^^^^^

Mind games?? Really what will you reprobates think of next?

Anyway - developments.....

Amerasu has had to drop out because of having a big load of work dumped on her. As we have hosed through our alternates I have been in consulatation with docilebob and luckily Trib has stepped up to the plate

He claims not to be too hot on painting but luckily photomanipulation might be what we are looking for as we still haven't touched the 3 alloted photos (and Hugh is a great painter and wj is still on board).

So some thoughts - I think the atom bomb concept is strong but the image needs to be abstracted (rather than it just being a picture of a bomb making room). Keep the bomb image and the room in the front with various images in the background (kind of like innocent scientists guys tinkering without realising the effect it will have).

Anyway the most affecting thing I've found is when Oppenheimer (choking on his words in a TV interview) qutes Shiva and says "I am become death, destroyer of worlds".

See: http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/j/q101189.html

So how about a picture of Oppenheimer:
http://images.google.com/images?q=Oppenheimer

this seems a suitably melancholic one:
http://www.th.physik.uni-frankfurt.de/~jr/gif/phys/oppenheimer.jpg

fading/morphing into one of Shiva:
http://images.google.com/images?q=Shiva

and pos. one of a mushroom cloud - the Doc has plenty of those.

[edit: Fund the page:
www.ozones.com/bomb-old/

but things seem broken

Anyway a quite Google should find some good examples]

Also possibly a quick painting of the outline of a body burnt into a wall?

Anyway bomb pictures:

Looking quite lovely hugh - great work.

I agree with Emperor a great deal. It will need more abstract concepts plugged in, and the ones he listed are quite good. It might also be effective to include imagery of the aftermath of such a blast...be it from japan, or from some of the test sites (the house being obiterated comes to mind).

Trib - I think a ray of hope is a great thing to include, but greenpeace doesn't seem to symbolize hope to me =(

{{edit - after some looking around, it would seem that the image of a paper crane would be rather appropriate for your ray of hope Trib. Some info here - http://www.nvccom.co.jp/peacepark/index.html

and specifically here: http://www.nvccom.co.jp/peacepark/monumente.html}}

Yeah thats why I was thinking about the imprints of people burnt into walls and the ground - that always horrified me more than the destruction of property.

Hope? Hmmmmmmmmm - not yet

Anyway how about flip the thing and have Oppenheimer and the bomb on the left transitioning to something onthe right like rebuilding and growth - a flower in a crater or one of the temples and memorials in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. See:
www.reggie.net/album.php?albid=522

[edit: The above are of the Hiroshima Peace Park see this for the Nagasaki one:
www.reggie.net/album.php?albid=534

and this for both:

so the outcome of those horrors is a committment to peace - throw in the CND sysmbol if you want (although I suspect it might be a bit predictable.

Thanks for the comments Hugh ... I enjoyed building that site, but it's a bugger to maintain, so I'm considering replacing it with a plain old blogger ... The concept might re-emerge later though ... in a more simple form perhaps.

It looks like we've used up our 3 allotted photos already ... perhaps the bomb could do with some contents, and shivanheimer's hand is a bit truncated, that's why I put it inside the bomb .. I wonder what he's doing with it ...

Hey Hugh .. Shiny bomb perhaps ??? The reflections/shines sort of match the room as it was set up in the last pikky ... Now I'm off to bed !!

PSD (6 MB)

P.S. if you're working on a more realistic reflection map, you'll need to cast some light on the underbomb table ... from the light, and from the bomb reflections ... and I dunno what that stripe is in the foreground ... but it seems an artefact has crept in ... never mind, the PSD has the bomb and reflections/shine layers to copy and paste if you want them.

I'm gonna try work on it in the morning only if WJ doesnt want to call it by about 1pm, I'll try my best on the reflection maps, I might just add some more things in with basic lighting and give you another go? wheres the table gone ? that had potential for cover a large area !! :P

Oh yea, and I was thinkin of adding something similar to: http://www.icklepix.com/art/montree.jpg
for the computers and possibly some sort of technolgy/support for holding up the bomb, or is it magic ? eitherway, its just that the table there is too low perspectivywise to hold the bomb up.

any ideas for more people/creatures ?

please post trib if you aren't done.
