I also prefer atari 2600. killer sound and graphics. never crashed. only one button, so simple minded folk like me don't get confused. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

I use a PC. this might be because I don't really ever get to use Macs but i'm not sure

SEGA!? Nintendo rocks all the way man! Sonic was the ONLY cool thing to come from Sega.

Atari dose rock though. I am talking about the old school Atari thought. The one with the one joystick and single button. OH YEA! I used to play that until my thumb was blistered!

I think we just set a new record. Guiness Book of World Records here we come. BTW Wes, I heard rumors that Commodore is comming out with all this new technology. Instead of a graphics tablet, theyre actually hooking up wires to your brian so instead of drawing something you just think about it and poof the built in gene splicers on the new Commodore's create it. My sources weren't that reliable though so dont quote me on that one...

None of my friends ever heard of it before and since I dont play videogames(I just have EVERY system) it went to waste. Bonks adventure, one of the few games i played...

Atari 800XL, best 64k of RAM I ever used. Gad, I loved that machine! I learned to program on that baby, that's where I got all hung up on making programs tiny, it's a trip when you actually run out of ram for one more line of code!

Oh yeah, Macintosh, all the way. PC's are good for games, though! <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/biggrin.gif">

Very old. The keyboard was a hex keyboard (ie, 0-9, a-f). Ohhh, but I loved it.

You can get all the software for either PCs or Macs, so it realy boils down to a question of 'feel'. And I prefer the 'feel' of having 4 modifier keys in PS (shift control option command) instead of just 3 (shift control alt). Smackintosh rulez baybee

heh I bought my Commodore 64 with money from my paper route jeez. About the only thing it was good for was Lode Runner and Spelunker.

Damn thing was practically useless for writing papers cuz the program I had could only show 3 pages at a time before you needed to save.

Heh. Living in the midwest, we still had some phone systems that were still pretty ancient once you got out of the big city. I have a friend who still carts his old Commodore Vic20 around, he has an acoustic coupler to hook into pay phones, and up until a few years ago he could still find systems that you could phreak into, Cool machine, it was the phreakers choice for MANY years. Capable of generating the beloved 2600 tone straight out of the box! (With maybe a little modification, heh.)

On the Mac vs. PC thing, you did hit a good point, the quick keys are way better placed on a macintosh keyboard, I work faster in it, regardless of the processor. Working web graphics resolution, it hardly matters how fast your machine is really, wait till you try doing something at print resolutions, woo! Then it matters, you betcha.

I think maybe I have you all beat? My first (and only) Fortran class was on a dumb terminal connected to a PDP 10. Zip drives? CDs? Floppies? Ha!!! We had rolls of punched tape. Beat the s**t out of punched cards, lemme tell ya! Plus the little punched out bits made way cool confetti, and you could scruch that little roll of your program to make a cool noise.

Thank the Lord for my little brother who got me thru that class! He teaches physics now. I take pictures. All is right with the world.

I do Mac, and about the only discussion more tedious that whether you hand code is what platform is best. Use the one that does what you need, and that you can get support for. I know macs inside and out. I'm stuck doing IT for a 12 person mostly computer phobic company. I can keep macs running. Regarding innate superiority, I think the real argument for Macs in the graphics arts are built-in Colorsync if you do ICC color management, and AppleScript. The rest is personal preference, available support, and what gets the job done. There's nothing I need to do that a Mac can't, so there I am.

Plus - it keeps you humble in a world of PC elitists. Yeah, so I only have one button on my mouse - wanna make something of it? Huh? Huh?

Doc: I forgot all about the Vic20! That was actually my first computer. I even had the crappy old tape drive that took audio cassette tapes. I loved the 64 so much, I guess I forgot about the Vic.

bitdamaged: I remember Lode Runner, but I liked Jumpman way more. In fact, I still have my 64 and huge floppy drive in a closet back in Texas. Think I'll hook it up when I get home and play some Dig-Dug!

Well..let's see.

Texas Intruments...the TI-99 then my Vic 20. Atari 2600 for Pac Man and Q-Bert, and Intellivision, for Keystone Cops...hehe

In honesty, if I had my way, I'd own a G4 for graphic, sound and video applications, and an Athlon based PC for all my other computing.

There we go..a good broad fence to sit on..hehe

Honestly I gotta agree with DG on that. In a perfect world where I am as rich as Gates I'd have one of each.

It seems the consensus is that the Mac is best for dedicated processor heavy apps where the PC is more General Purpose

Hey Steve! I remember paper tape! My first computing experiences were using a dumb terminal with a paper tape reader, connected with a 120 baud modem to an old HP2000. Great fun. I had one of those terminals I recued from the dumpster years later, it made cool furniture.
