Preserved Topic: let me share this ALMOST funny thing.

I was in the computer lab in school reading posts in this forum. My teacher came up to me, asked:" what's this?". "a javascript help forum.", I said. He did't leave and maybe intended to read with me, he was actually standing aside and watching. I scrolled down, then Mr.Max's old signature image came up, it used to be a Sex-Starving-looking girl crawling (now it changed to a more healthy figure). He asked:"What's that girl doing over there?". I said "I don't know, maybe looking for her glasses.". He said "ah...!" in a rang-a-bell tone. I kept scrolling down as I finished reading every post, then I came down to mickey's post, he's signature figure is an obscene word, if you have hardtime remembering what mickey's figure is, it's a "FUCK" black text in white outline. Since it's not so attactive on this dark colored forum, so he didn't realize, but he did notice there is something unattractive and he approached himself to the screen. He saw the text finally, and asked "what's that?", I said:"what's what?" as I closed the browser.

Rikimaru, if someone really wants to post words like F***, he can always use HTML entities to write every letter of that word. And writing a filter for that would require a lot of RegExes, which consume a lot of CPU resources and will eventually bring the server down! Anyway, this is a discussion for the Server-Side Scripting board...

I don't think what was said in here was bad at all. I mean, Shiizzzam's sig is one of the racier ones I have seen (besides trixter's) and Shi is a woman.

And I mean come on, in the sig there is a woman who appears to be crawling on the ground. What is wrong with making a joke about that?

la'dsasha, no one is treating a women like a toy, dear god, go out and lobby for more women's rights or some shit. Its not like his pics are showing people having sex, there models, They show no nudity, if your that hyped up about it, go tell the people who's taking the pictures that you dont wanna see it.

Alot of pics like that can be considered art, and considering there in a Photoshop forum, art is pricisely what they are.

Trixter's tit sig was a bit outa line, but these are fine, someone pissed and moaned about Shizzam's sig, and all it showed was some bare shoulders. (shizzam's a women by the way, not sure if you knew or not) You have to think, women are used as objects ALL the time, along with everything else, in commercials, especially makeup, hair products, there using women as promotional objects to sell the product.

I was just thinking about the the pg-13 aspect of it, and if you recall, the movie titanic, it showed her "tits" for quite a long time, and there was a sex scene, still if im not mistaken, it was pg-13. Do you know why it was kept pg-13? Because it was considered art. Just like these sigs, people look at them, and marvel, they arent used as toys.

As for keeping the language pg-13, i dont wanna come to a place where i have to watch what i say, and worry about offending someone with "not what i said", but "how i sad it", i already have to put up with a place like that for 8 hours a day, called school. I like mikeys sig, it brings a change to all the people uisng there names in ther sigs. I remember in Home Alone 1, which was pg-13, that there was cussing, ass, and damn.

I teach 8th grade and have to watch my language all day long. If I come home after a crappy day when I am about a blink away from strangling a kid I want to be able to throw a fuck in here or there.

Its theraputic. If you play sports you know. It relieves so much more frustration to yell a curse word then it does to say "OH SHOOT!" "DARN IT!" "DAGNABBIT!"

It came to my attention that some of my 8th graders found my website somehow. So, some of these boys might be thirteen, and wet behind the ears (which seems an acceptable excuse...I guess). So they might not be enlightened, or intelligent enough to know how to handle their ignorance, hormones, rebellious use of fuck or various and sundry other "naughty words"....

...but what's anyone else's excuse?

Krets mentioned the "release" that comes from swearing out loud....well of course that's related to the taboo ideal of what the words hold in society...but it's a valid point.

So are you all saying that you're nothing but pathetic expanses of pent up frustration that can't find another release whatsoever, so you log on to go to a forum that is obviously taking a backslide, so that you can "scream" your release through typed syntax to a board full of people who are either not interested, or are just looking for the same sort of release for their oh so tough lives so they can scream right back at you?....by typing.....on a board....about graphics, design, and community...

I was not at all trying to tear apart her post, it is very unrealstic, and im confused, how am i supposed to go about portraying my opposing opinion, with out. Hey DG, I was talking more about the release of curse words during sports. Granted, there are times in life I feel like letting loose with a giant tirade of filth, but I find other ways to release.

I love basketball. When you miss an easy lay up or blow a dunk it just feels better to say "SHIT!" than it does to mask it with a more choice word. At least it helps me to get over that one and make the next one. That is just what I have found...

And those are exactly the kind of acceptable releases I was meaning krets. I used to play basketball, and football for the longest time. I know the need to shriek out about someone's questionable parentage at times..heh...but that's still moderately controlled.

It's for those releases that I mentioned that you had a "valid point"...but look around at this place man..can you say that this fits within that realm of intelligent control and focused release?

Oh, and for a missed layup or jam, I usually made comment about the sexual habits of the ball's mother...but I just don't bring that here to ease my pent up "testosterone"...hehe

Regardless of my age, I try to keep my distance from the types of language and images displayed in this thread... it's not that bad, of course, just a couple images and some words that I already know. Nonetheless, I don't really want to be reading/looking at it regularly. I basically agree with what La'dsasha (sp?)said.

To be blunt, if you guys want to go around using language like that then it's not really my job to stop you or anything. But if it becomes regular, then I will simply *not* be returning to this forum.

Fact is, this board is young and as it matures and more people join, I'm 100% sure they'll all be different. Everyone pines for "the days when..." but, as the saying goes, "those *were* the days." It's not so bad, it's life really. Everyday I have to wade through stuff I don't like to get to what I do like, everyone does. If you can't work and play with people that get on your nerves, offend you, or just plain suck, life is needlessly more difficult.

As a mad scientist I really should be closing down this thread because its getting borderline sexist and so forth but I'll leave it open because of its entertainment values and the hopes that someone else will close it down.

Maybe I'm just missing something here or perhaps I'm just ignoring something but where did this argument start from? The original topic was about Galaxal's interesting story. How did we span off to actual degrading women and censorship? Amazing. I think its human nature to pick a side of an argument and defend it without really thinking much about it. There are some people in this world that just feel every halfway negative comment coming in a general direction of there race, religion, gender, age, etc., is an offensive attack against them. I'm not really taking sides in this little debate we have going here. This isn't the first time that this topic has come up nor will it be the last time. I really just want to share my opinions and let that be it.

For starters, where did this actually come from? Mr. Max made a simple sig. There was nothing degrading about it. It was a pretty girl with the guys name on the image. There was no nudity. In all actuality the girl wasn't portrayed in any degrading position (that she did not agree to). From there we spanned into the confused life of Mikey Milker. Mikey makes comments, he does that, we've come to accept it. He sort of makes things a little bit more interesting. Maybe some people could actually say his sig is a little uncalled for, but why are they uncalled for? He used the word "fuck" but he didn't direct it at anyone. Why should it be any different then any other word?

galaxal made a joke about having girls find glasses. Is that really disrespectful? Why is that? In a group of peers and somewhat friends should we have to watch what we say to make sure no one gets offended? With such a diverse population here is that possible?

Maruman says all teachers want to fuck him, we know that's not true because Im a thousand times better looking then he is and most (if not all) want me.

Rikimaru suggested running a filter so words that are considered bad could not be printed, such as c*****n. A good idea to say the least, but there's ways around it and with so many different backgrounds and cultures could you possible censor EVERY foul word?

I really don't see what la'dsasha was getting at when she talked about seeing women being treated as objects. With no other information then Mr. Max had a picture of a girl we had been accused of treating women as objects. Am I wrong? As pointed out his sigs were PG - 13 and now we advance on the topic of language.

The was a few people who stood up for la'dsasha by stating the obvious that she was only stating an opinion. Weren't we all? It just blows my mind that we have gotten this far into this new topic. I personally do not see how language creates a bad or good atmosphere here. Its more of the context of it that would create that atmosphere. I haven't really seen anyone say "Fuck you ... yeah you ... asshole." It's more of the lines of "damn, who saw the Mets game last night?" Would it be a lot nicer of a place if we said "Gee wilikers, did anyone see the Mets game last night?" I don't think so. Why would anyone not want to visit the Docs forum because the occasionally "damn," "shit," and "fuck" are tossed around? Why are these words different then "cow" and "dog" ? They can all be equally offensive.

LANGUAGE: I censor some words on this forum. Most of the words are some kind of cool "elite" speak, with all the silly characters, you know what I mean. Also banned is the name of a certain current president of the USA. I *could* choose' the censor all of the dirty words I can think of, think of George Carlin's "Seven dirty words", but I will not. Those words are simply too commonly used, I don't think they *should* be considered offensive any more. Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke. Europe is much more sensible about these things; swedish TV has lots of nudity, occasional use of foul language, but very little violence. What would you rather your kids be exposed to?

OPINIONS: You should all have them. They should be yours, not someone elses. They will all probably differ from each others. That is a good thing. If you must disagree in a strong way, please refrain from any personal attacks, OK? This is supposed to be a friendly place! IMAGES: Hey, this forum is all about webdesign and stuff like that? Photoshop is part of that. Now if people all wanted to start posting their favorite porno pics I wouldn't like that very much. If someone wants to use an emotionally charged image in there sig, I will simply not censor that.

SEXISM: Hey, this industry should really have an equal mix of the sexes, shouldn't it? Why doesn't it, are guys more able to handle the rigours of Photoshop? There's no reason for it, but their *is* a disparity of the sexes. I welcome a better mix of people here, and you should too. If the act of *you* expressing yourself drives too many others away, maybe you should make a personal effort to not do that. Personal choice, *your* choice, and *individual* choice made by each and every one of us here. Yeesh, I don't even know what to say about this issue. This is the internet, these are your colleagues, the best thing about this medium is that it doesn't matter who you are, how old you are, what your sex or sexual preferences are, we should judge folks by WHAT THEY DO and HOW THEY DO IT.
