My question is how many of you will go out and buy photshop 6.0 when it comes out the 20th? I already pre-ordered it.

5.5 is working pretty well for me, and I'm just starting to get used to it, since I've been out of the graphics business for a while now. I tend to wait a while and see if products are really worth buying, especially when they are $200 just to upgrade. Since I don't make a living using photoshop(or any money at all) I don't feel the need to fund adobe's mad scramble for world domination when I could be buying some hardware instead.

I now have a Pentium 233 Mhz w/ 64 mb, (and it works GREAT!) but I heard you needed 96 MB to run it<edit> I mean ver 6.0</edit> properly. I've got 5.0 now, but once my dad gets a new comp, I'm planning to get 6.0. Personally, I think nobody ought've bought version ver 5.5, but that's just my 2 cents.

im running 6.0 beta now. i realy like some things, but they rearranged my toolbox, so its a bit awkward at times.

grouped layers make it absolutely worth it. theres 4 different ways you can lock the layer, including lock layer movement as well as preserving transparency.

i can tell you that i have it running on my NT server with 56 meg ram as well as my win2k workstation with 128 meg ram. i dont notice much difference at all.

oh yeah, theres some nice differences between 5.0 and 5.5. 5.0 has bad color management. you have to either get the patch or manually change it or else youll get very poor quality jpgs. 5.5 is definately more optimized for the web and ever since i got it, ive relied on ulead smart saver less and less.

Ill buy it, eventually. I probably wont shell out the money for an upgrade until I decide its worth it. 5.0 still fits my needs pretty well and I would rather hear what all of you say about it when you guys get it before I buy it ...

I'm all preodered 'n stuff. Once it arrives at my house, I will simply sit in my studio and play with it for several days. No one will hear from me. It will be like...like...like when Tekken 3 came out.

i was dinking around with transparent gifs and realized that the beta has no gif export! i messed around in the save for web feature to see if there was a way to do a color picker for transparency. no dice. so i just copied my gif export filter thingie to my photoshop 6.0\plug-ins\photoshop only\import-export folder and was able to color pick my transparency color.

on your layers palette, you now have add layer effects, add adjustment layer, add layer group in addition to the normal add layer, delete layer, etc.

the "render layer" option has been taken out of the layer palette and has been renamed "rasterize layer.."

i love how they changed the text interface. no more gimpy boxes. its almost like illustrator.

i can lock transparency, lock editing & transparency, lock movement, and lock all editing of layer.

double clicking on the layer brings up your layer effects rather than bringing up the layer options.

you cant warp text if it has had faux bold applied to it. some of your text effects are hidden in the right click menu (such as faux bold/itallics). you *cant* scroll up and down in your layers palette once you have begun editing a text layer (an annoyance).

thats all that i can think of that hasnt already been documented by all of the other ps 6 preview articles.

sasha - is ImageReady totally integrated into 6.0? I know 5.5 had the gif export in Photoshop and you can also set your transparency in the optimize palette in ImageReady. If they've done away with the seperation of PS and IR then I would look for your gif transparency tools in the optimization palette (if there is one).

im not a fan of image ready, so i did a bit of poking around in it. ive never used it. there was no export for gif in photoshop 6.0 or image ready 3.0. i tried switching my image to indexed mode and sending it to image ready, but it wouldnt accept it.

id say that image ready is no more integraded into photoshop than it was in 5.5. the filter for the gif export that i copied to ps 6 works just fine, so im content.

i think it´s unfair.. look: if u preorder PS6.0 from usa it´s ~600$ .. but if u pre order from sweden it´s 7775.00 kr / 9.3 = ~ 830$!! <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/frown.gif">
