I was told that Radio Shack was giving away *FREE* code scanners sooooooooo I went to get one and check it out. You scan any bar code and it takes you to their page.

Hmm? Sounds like a FREE GADGET, what's not to have fun with that? I would've grabbed one if they actually had Radio Shack here in Europe, heh. Hey, I wonder what else you could get that thing to do? Maybe just to simply output to a text file and find what's *really* hidden in those barcodes! Kret's, I went to www.brandname.com and all I got was a stupid "under construction" page! Bet the scanner would be more useful than *that*.

Bar code scanner - bah. I got one in the mail from Ad Week. First of all the software was PC only. Strike one. Second, it was molded to look like, get this, a cat. Strike two. Third ... well, I thought about all the stats someone was gonna harvest from me, and I said Strike Three, took a screwdrive to the sucker and pulled out all the interesting looking crap inside. Better off as props for a photo I thought

Yeah I've got one of those, it's called the Cue Cat. I've had it for a while now and the novelty factor has worn off. The scanner is in the shape of a cat to match your mouse.

However there were some interesting privacy issues (that may have been resolved by now) that what ever you scan gets held in a database or something. I never really cared too much since I was just using it as a geek toy.
