Lately I've been getting into skinning, litestep, etc. and one thing is still bothering me about my desktop. Do any of the windows users out there know how to change systray icons? Thanks alot. |

I was just mucking with this on my machine, it's actually pretty accesable for the basic icons. Go to your control panels (in w2k) and select display. Choose "effects" and you'll see a menu button to change icons for basic system functions. For shortcuts, you can access this from the properties dialog, and for the others (that seem hidden, hrmph) you'll have to go to the regedit. Trying to change the icon for explorer seems like one big hassle, none of the right click options seem the same, dammit! |

I have no problem changing those icons, but I can't find an entry for the systray icons in the registry. The icons I am referring to are the ones on the lower left that sit below the clock. |

I use microangelo, you can get it at zdnet or downloads.com. Just make the icon in photoshop and paste it into the icon program. |

Im on my other computer now. Should I not have deleted some of those things? Oh I also took the Doc's advice and just started renaming things. Is that wrong? |

I've been fucking with the registry for a hell of a long time now and I've never had any problems. As long as you're careful, you don't have to worry about screwing anything up. |

Vog, messing around in your resistry and then screwing everything up so bad that you hafta format your computer is just half the fun. The other half is when you realize that you've lost everything and your sisters college reports that she needs are now gone ... |

Personally, I reformat my HD at least once every two weeks. I find that it removes unecessary clutter and makes my computer run a lot faster. It also keeps all my programs updated to the newest versions. The only downfall is that it costs me quite a bit because I don't write down registration codes for the shareware I use. Sooo, I just end up buying new copies every couple of weeks. And boy, downloading all 600 songs that I have on my computer every 2 weeks is a bitch! In the end its all worth it. I have one clean runnin machine! |
